Sport upper for sale
So I stumbled upon a Sport upper for sale. I spoke with the gentleman about it. He bought it for the lower and put a CMMG upper 16" barrel on it and is very happy with it. he never shot the Sport, he felt he needed a dust cover and a FA and without them it isnt truly a functional AR. Also because not many of the name brand AR's offer a 1-8 5R barrel he should go with something else. He had never heard of our forum and when he emails me I will give him the link. I am sorry, I know that CMMG makes a fine product, but their barrel doesnt compare and all he really needed to do was change the upper reciever to have a better rifle than what he has. I am trying to buy it, I would more than likely follow in Crracer's footsteps and put a poly lower on it but it all depends upon the price. I just really wanted to talk about it.
P.S. Yesterday when I posted about it I broke the rules. They are there for a purpose and I had read them but it slipped my mind. Please remember it is against the rules to post about an ongoing auction. The management of this forum are very fair and will let some things slide but they will draw a line. We have a great thing here and should not abuse it in any way!

What rule was broken Grovey? (that's cute, do you like it?? lol!) The posting of an Ebay link?
Well, I'll refrain from judging you about that today. It's Sunday after all. But come tomorrow, when a million locust and crows swarm your farm, don't think I don't hold a grudge!

So, he must have forward assist and a dust cover, and does not want the 1:8 twist 5r barrel....why in the world did he buy a Sport?
Did you tell him that his buddies at M4Carbines aren't going to approve of his CMMG upper either? Even the hard core guys are saying that the Sport seems to be a good buy for range and general plinking use.

I just see it as his perogative. If he wants to shoot an 'AR-15', I can understand why he'd want to change the upper (not so sure why he didn't just buy a complete rifle that way to begin with though).
Kinda thinking along the lines of Nascar. I don't recall a Toyota ever having a V8, or a Ford Taurus ever coming in a 2 door. But Nascar mandates a set of rules and all cars must be created within a set of rules. Perhaps this guy just wants his rifle to be within the original 'configuration' of what is commonly know with the AR-15.
I said 'commonly' so maybe it would avoid someone jumping on the 'well originally it was designed without this, this or that'.... If a person wants to think along those lines, then surely they must think 5R rifling and/or Mellonite treatment wasn't part of the 'original' design as well. It's all about choices and what a particular individual likes or wants.

I agree, his money, get what he wants....he just took the scenic route to get to his final destination. And since he never shot the Sport, he didn't even look at the scenery while driving by!

One of the rules is no posting links to ongoing auctions on whatever websight they are going on. I shouldnt have posted the link. They were nice about letting me know I messed up. I try to follow the rules but occasionally I forget. LOL It has to be the 70's fault!!!

True, but had he shot it, he may have been thinking he wouldn't get as much for it.
I don't know what he paid for it, but the price is still setting at 400, which makes the lower kinda high. Who knows. Perhaps at the 400 price, he's coming out ahead more so than if he were to swap out the upper receiver like splittlebus did.

yeah $400 is a bit pricey but knowing what that barrel is capable of I think it is worth it.

Well today the bid is up to $405 with a buy it now price of $507, I am out...we will see if it comes up for sale again. Or has the barrel gained a fan club!
In the mean time, I was able to chat last night with a lazer engraver who does work for companies we all have the catalogs too. I am going to purchase an upper with dust cover and FA but has the eagle globe and anchor engraved on it. Plus on the dustcover and the charging handle cheap enough to make it worth my while, especially since I have the tools to replace the upper.
I will use the sport upper as the basis for my rifle build!! Stage 3 of the EBR disease!

Like I said Grover, keep and eye on that thing!....
Be careful posting about letting it run for 12 hours, you'll have people telling you if its taking that long, you need to change your media! I just assume they don't appreciate the bright shiny brass. And I always make and *** out of myself, and if I get to include them too, that's great!

One thought Grover, if you REALLY like your clean upper, what about buying that new upper and installing it on your rifle, then sending your clean upper off to have engraved?

Still high, in my opinion. The barrels are wonderful on these, but having seen maybe 10,000 different ARs shoot all over the world, I have never known any barrel to be enough better to justify spending too much for it. Ammo makes sooooo much more of a difference than the barrels these days. The things are just so darn accurate, improvements are rare.

Rod that is my thought. The guy who does the engraving is supposed to call me in a bit. I will talk to him about that and will still have a cool upper for my next build!!!

@oneyeopn Your gonna hate me for showing you this! Quentin Defense special USMC edition stripped lower receiver.
Note: when you enlarge the picture, the emblem is very plain. From what I understand they have since added much more detail to it. Call to be sure. Also all serial numbers begin with "USMC".
Found the updated one.
