M&P 15 Sport-Any available or....?
I have been looking for the sport(not a need but a want) based on all the good things I have seen and heard here on line. Trouble is, not any of the stores around here have them in stock. When I have visited different LGS I get the same response: We'd love to sell them, but we can get it. One even said that he'd sell them all day but hasn't seen them for months and doesn't know if he ever will. Every store on line states either it's: temporarily out of stock or on back order or not available. I finally was able to talk to a sales manager at the LGS that I got my M&P 40 just to ask what they would sell them for(they require 20% to order)if they had them and was told $699-if they ever became available. They've had many requests, but nobody wanted to put down money for something that no one knew if or when it would become available. Getting very frustrated.

Some one in this forum will be able to tell you where you can find one, between all the people in here and the different sites that they monitor I find it to be a great place for knowledge.

I don't understand why they want 20% down. If you don't come in to pick it up, I don't think it will gather dust on the shelf. Tell him that and offer him $50.

Don't understand the high % myself, but it's their store policy. 10% would seem fair, but 20% for who knows how long, that's a bit much. Given that no ones has them in stock, and the stock answer I keep hearing is that they have no idea when(or if) they'll even become available, I wonder if S&W has just stopped manufacturing them. Although I do find it hard to believe that a product that is in such high demand at a price point that is extremely competitive and that store inventories are non existent, you'd think that S&W would be trying to get these made ASAP. But it just does not seem to be the case.

they havent stopped making them, there is such a back log of orders that the people who were first in line are the ones who are getting them.

I ordered one a month ago. I got curious how bad the back order was so I emailed Customer Service rather that wait for a third-hand answer from the dealer. I got a reply in 2 days saying they are being shipped daily and had just under 2500 units back ordered. I dont know if that was for all Sports or just the 811038 I asked about? Yesterday I got notification from the big distributor (not sure if I'm supposed to name names) and one of the big online gun dealers that they had them in stock. The online dealer shows $621. but you have to join their VIP club for $25. Still not bad.

It's your money, I understand that, so do as you see fit. However 20% isn't that bad. When I ordered my Ruger SR1911 on 12/30/11 I had to put 50% down. It is now with in $75.00 of being paid for. I am however still waiting on it.

I just ordered my Sport today and had to put 50% down.
They could not give me a date or a time frame better then 2 to 3 months, but from all the stores that I have been to no one can do better.
$639 -3% for cash = $619.83

Eeew.
10 round mag limit. Bullet button. I'm not sure what else our beleagured California brothers in arms have to endure. No forward grip? No flash hider? No adjustable stock? IDK.
I live in Illinois, and don't know if California is any better.

Yes it was Buds and it now shows "out of stock". With the 10 rd. mag and bullet button it is no longer an "assault weapon" so it therefore can retain all the features which made it evil.

No collapsible stock either. Mine is a New York version which is basically the same minus the bullet button (thank God for small miracles). Yes you can change around most of this stuff however with ease. You'll spend a little extra cash but if they have one I'd jump on it. My dealer said I was very lucky to get mine when I did, he can't get more either.

Keith what state are you in? Let us know and one of us may be able to tell you if they saw a Sport in a local store. Last time I was in Lubbock I saw one at Gander Mtn but it was over $700. If it was me I would avoid getting the California version even if it took a little longer.

Recently found one locally. It was being checked in. Went back the next day and it was gone. If you find one, you have to be ready to move quick.

The CA Compliant model actually does have the collapsible stock.
Like I said, with the "fixed" 10 rd. magazine, it can have all the features that would otherwise classify it as an assault weapon. If you're in the market and you found one for the right price, why not buy it?

What do you mean by "fixed 10rd mag" Couldn't you just replace it with the 30?
Other than the bullet button & 10rd mag, what else is different? Minnesota will allow the "full" model.
Checking the S&M website the 811037 has a fixed stock while the 811038 has the collapsable stock. The 811036 is the full model.

AN UPDATE
Thanks to this forum, I was able to locate a Sport, but it was the "Kalifornia" model. No problem as I ordered the parts to make it non-Kalifornian. From what read and watched on you tube, I should be able to switch out the mag release with no problem. Side note: What a STUPID law for a part than a grade school kid could circumvent in 15 minutes!
Now my next question is about pmags. The model I'm getting has the 10rd magazine and I want the 30 rounders but not sure as to which ones to get. I went to the Magpul site and on Amazon and they listed a number of different ones. And yes, I only looked at the 556/223 30's What should I be looking for when they are all so close?
Example from Amazon;
Magpul MAG211BLK PMAG 30 5.56x45 AR15/M16 Magazine - Black $14.50
Smith & Wesson M&p15 Pmag 5.56mm Black 30 Round $17.50
MAGPUL INDUSTRIES CORPORATION PMAG 30RD MAGLEVEL 17.88

What's the difference between the two? I'm thinking the standard would be fine, but I'd like to know what's different between them.
I'll check out CTD. Thanks!

PMAG is the standard 30 round mag (I have 2 of these)
S&W PMAG just has the M&P log stamped on it. Otherwise same as the PMAG (I have 1 of these)
PMAG with MagLevel has the window in the side so you can see your rounds. Same as above otherwise. (I don't have any of these)
I also have 10 aluminum DSG Arms Mags with Magpul followers. Those went for around $9 each.
All have worked perfect so far.

Thank you BJ2012. I figured the standard PMag would be just fine for me and you verified that.

I really hope you can. Some seem to have trouble removing the bullet button on the M&P 15's like in this thread.

Btw Rilegear has the normal sports in stock atm. http://www.riflegear.com/p-1148-sw-m...ort-rifle.aspx

The best price on line I have found is Botach. Standard 30 rnd Pmag are $14.98. When you figure free shipping and 15% discount for using "magpul" in the box for coupon at checkout, they come out to be about $13 each. Here is the link. A lot of places kill you on shipping. I've ordered from them twice, never had a problem.

Thanks! Already checked into Botach and found a better "code" for the mags. 20% instead of 15%. Like the free shipping as well. Stayed too long on that site and found a few other things I might want to add, like the hand guards. Just waiting for some tax money to filter back home.

Operation was excellent and memories of boot camp and rifle range passed through my mind. I own several Ruger pistols and revolvers but am pleased I chose this excellent value rifle over mini-14.

Just got mine with BB from grabagun. Can you tell me exactly how you removed button? I have tried everything short of drilling with no luck. I know there is a slotted screw in there but it won't budge. Thanks.

Yuetta...semper fi bro! when I read your post I knew you were a jarhead before I looked up and saw the EG&A. IMHO you will not regret choosing the sport over the mini-14, accuracy not comparable and the fun level is there also, plus a lot more dress up parts. Welcome to the club!!!!

It's not a slotted screw-it's a slotted nut. The guy in the youtube video I mentioned earlier in the post, used a 22 casing and machined tabs on the end. I just drilled it out. Just go slow and before you you know it, it's done.

If the bullet button nut was put on with loctite/epoxy/super glue you, or your gunsmith, will likely need to drill it out. I've read about limited success heating the mag release to soften sealant then turning nut. Mine had no sealant/glue and came out easily. The nut has two slots in it, one slot on each side, and mag release bolt threads pass through center of nut past slots. You can't put a standard screwdriver squarely into both slots because the bolt threads are in the way. I put a small paneling nail into one of the slots and rotated it around the threaded mag release bolt until it came off.

Yea, rifle range and infantry training are firmly imprinted on all Marines' minds.

If you're looking for available stock on the sport, call the Cabela's gun request # 1-888-474-4867...I called and they shipped one from a store in a different state. I had a call in less than 48hrs and they hold it for 5 days with no down payment.

I'M AWARE OF YOU!
After making recent posts on this blog I've had two occurrences of men coming to my home when I'm at work asking my wife bogus questions. One claimed he wanted to buy our van and yesterday three men in a car, two in front seat and one in back, stopped by. The man in back seat got out and asked my wife if we found a cell phone in our yard. My wife immediately thought both events were unusually and told me she will be talking to a police officer about these men. These events may be unrelated to this blog but they are definitely correlated. I can imagine how felons/drug dealers/criminals/etc are monitory gun blogs looking for an easy mark to get a free SA AR15. Don't know how they would get personal info.

My LGS guy says he sells them as fast as he gets them in. I guess those who put the Sport model down cannot say that about their more expensive AR's

Nothing wrong with being a little paranoid but I think you will find the events unrelated to your posts.

Ok... I don't know how to react to this, because I just can't tell.
Option 1 = Clever Joke : Funny one dude. That one had me laughing.
Option 2 = You're Serious: When surfing this forum, make sure to wear your tin-foil hat or else the admins can use their clairvoyant powers over the internets to get into your mind.

for that nut you can get a wide bit for one of the tools with the multibit sets and grind out the center. I have done it a couple of times for nuts like that.

I just ordered one today for $555 shipped to my FFL. At that price, it was all I could do to not order two!
