New Sport w/Nikon P-223 3-9x40 Scope
I recently became a new M&P15 Sport owner. I had my first range session Sunday using the iron sites...what fun! The riser showed up today so I mounted the Nikon P-223 3-9x40 Scope and threw a few other goodies on:
Hogue Rubber Grip Ar-15/M-16 Rubber Grip with Finger Grooves
UAG Tactical Stealth Black Slip On Rubber Recoil Reducing Combat Buttpad Butt Pad For 6 Six Position Retractable Collapsible Stock AR-15 AR15 M4 Rifle
BlackHawk Universal Tactical Sling
UTG 1-Inch High 13-slot Hi-profile Full Size Riser Mount
Nikon P-223 3-9x40 Rifle Scope, Matte Black, BDC 600 Reticle 8497 w/ Nikon P-Series Scope Mount w/ Rings 826
The UTG riser is very nice, easier cheek weld lineup for me and it provides lots of access room for the charging handle. I'm hoping to get to the outdoor range this holiday weekend to check out the new scope.
It just started raining when I snapped this picture tonight, but I think it does it justice...

Looks nice, enjoy it. Love Nikon stuff, high quality and consistantly more than the price indicates.

Is the one inch riser necessary with this set up? I have not tried mounting a scope to my Sport. I have a red dot with a cantilever mount on mine. I was under the impression that you would possibly see ghosting of the front sight post, but you could still use the scope with just the Nikon mounts. Is this not the case?

I've been looking at this scope and am thinking the same thing. I thought the one inch riser would not be necessary.

I set it up with the Nikon scope and rings and no riser, it did work. I like the riser as it makes sighting more natural for me (big head) and it provides plenty of clearance around the charging handle.

Cool, thanks Jimsky. Let us know how it shoots and your impression of the scope. Welcome aboard!

At about 3X magnification, the front sight is not an issue.

I really never saw in ghosting but the smallest scope I used started at 4x, I use a 1/2 riser plus a pepr style mount for the same reason (big head) LOL

In my experience, after 2X it is not visable at all.

Jimsky...I have one style of extended charging handle latch, other people have others but after a while you might find you want to go that way. Some replace their entire charging handle, I just replaced the latch, either way it is easy to do and very handy.

Agreed. I have the Nikon M-223 2-8x and at 2x the front sight is just a slight ghost that I don't notice unless I'm actively looking for it. It's never a distraction once I'm focused on the target.

I am conflicted between the Nikon P mounts with a 45 degree offset with a Red dot

I do like the pepr style mounts but I run a big ol scope on mine still using a pepr style mount. Thinking about putting a holographic on a 45 degree slant but just thinking about it.
