So it's been a couple months since I bought a Sport. Added a carry handle and fired away. I liked it fine but decided I wouldn't mind having a full size AR too.

Now I've got two ARs, after I found a fellow range member selling a Colt A2 Sporter. I thought I might sell the Sport to finance the Colt but no can do - I like them both!

I used to have a similar problem with Smith revolvers, buying one nice one would lead to wanting another model and so on. I'm hoping to keep the impulse to buy multiple ARs under control!

Nice lookin couple of rifles you got there!

How does the accuracy compare between them ?

I found the best way to fix this impulse is to pick up a couple 308AR's to go with the 15's. Oh sure, you will shoot a Grand Canyon size hole in your wallet, and the cost of ammo will choke a horse.

But it's a good kind of broke and choking!!!!

You want to buy some ammo for your .308, I have about 600 AP rounds....LOL

I hope to find out today when I take the Colt to the range. With the A2 iron sights on the Sport all I can do is about a 4 inch group at 100 yards.

I realize the gun is capable of much more with a scope.

With the Colt 20" barrel you get a significantly longer sight radius so I should do better with it (fingers crossed).

Smithman 10...please try to do a comparison, I side by side compared an M16A3 with a Bushmaster and my Sport. the Colt had the H-Bar barrel and I was a little disappointed in its performance. Anyway I expected better so let us know how your does. Thank You

I read on another forum that the Colt AR 15 are hit and miss on accuracy, you may get a good and you may get a bad one. Has anyone else heard this or read this or have any first hand knowledge ?

i think he meant an AR with the 20" barrel which is what his new colt is

And a fixed (solid) A1 Stock

By full-size AR I mean a fixed stock and a 20" barrel rifle like I learned to shoot about 40 years ago. Also the Colt weighs about a pound more than the Sport.

I took the Colt A2 out to the range today and managed one 5 - shot 100 yard group just a tad less than an inch and a half with American Eagle XM855 62 grain ammo with the iron sights. Other groups were larger. I shot some Tula, Wolf, PMC also. It shot everything I loaded into it.

I didn't have time to shoot both rifles head to head but I believe the smaller group comes from the longer sight radius with a 20" barrel pure and simple. I'd bet both rifles are capable of one inch groups with a scope.

I like both of them - I'm keeping both of them! Just need to hold at two and not develop an AR habit like my revolver habit!
