So far I am using Hornady 55gr V-Max and Z-max...I have also loaded up some 68gr BTHP Match but havent tried those on Pdogs. The Max's work very well but I have been giving a considerable amount of thought to the Varmint Nightmares from Midsouth. I havent really looked at the Dogtowns but am getting a gift cert. to Midway for my birthday and was going to order some bullets from them, I will check them out...thanks for pointing them out.

I looked up the Varmint Nightmare and the BC is not as good as the V-Max but the price is a little more reasonable other retailers sell the V-Max in 500 round packages, (thats what I buy) the Dogtowns are the same way. My deal with the soft points is they get rounded off or kinda smeared in packaging and shipping where the ballistic tips hold their shapes and helps keep the BC higher. But I do shoot longer distances where the BC comes to play

I have loaded these and they shoot really well, although the Amax prints a little tighter group.
Bullets 22 Cal (224 Diameter) 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail
I ordered a 100 each of the dogtown's in both soft point anf hollow point to see how they shoot. I am also considering ordering some of the 55 gr nightmare's in hollow point. So I wanted to see what others have tried. I guess the nightmares can only be ordered in bulk of 500. Wish I could just order 100 to check them out before ordering 500.

My bullet of choice for the sport is Hornady 53gr v-max. The BC is 0.290 and they will shoot lights out. I prefer ballistic tip/boat tail bullets because of of the higher BC (and they just look cool). I have thought about trying some of the dogtowns but there is only a small amt of savings involved and not worth it to me. The nightmares look interesting based on price, but with a BC of 0.190 and SP/FB, I just lack confidence in them to to what I want 'em to do.

Haven't tried either one of those.
I was thinking of trying Varmint Grenade but some experienced shooters gave them BAD reviews on a varmint hunting website I frequent.
For Prairie Dogs, I use 55 grain Nosler BTs. I buy "seconds" in large quantities.

I recently ordered 500 of the DogTown 55HPs. Figured wprst case I could use them for offhand practice for hipower. Loaded up some for my 40x 22-250. Couldn't find the 2nd shot at 100 yds. The more I stared the more it seemed like the 1st shot hole looked a litte out of round. After a 100 yd walk I confirmed the 2nd shot opened up the 1st hole just enough to be sure it was 2 shots. The next 2 shots opped the group to 3/8 in. I usually choke on the 5th shot when I have a good group going and this was no exception. 2nd group was just under 5/8 in with again the 5th shot opening it up from well under 1/3 in. I don't get too excited about BC at 223 varmit ranges, 250-300 yds. Yea you can hit em out a little farther but I prefer more gun(more velocity to be sure bullet expands) for the longer shots.

That's excellent shooting! Sounds we both have headspace problems though....the space in our heads is the problem. The higher BC bullets MAY not make that much of a difference in reality, however, in my head they do and I need every advantage I can get. I totally agree on using the right tool for the right job.

I just tried the dog towns 55 gr in hollow point and soft point and wasn't happy with either one. I loaded 24.5 gr of H335 with them, maybe I need a different load. Shooting them in my Sport.
Whjat are you loading for powder with the dogtowns ?

Again, not using dogtowns, but do use H335. It is excellent powder for the .223, you just gotta find the right load. Start at the min. and work up to the max. using 0.2gr increments. I load about 12 for each charge, then shoot 'em and see.
