While we talk about weight, the real issue on stabilization is bullet length.
Now, you can deep seat bullets and cram just about anything under 80 grains into a magazine without affecting the powder charge. Black Hills loads/loaded 77 gr SMKs under contract for the DOD. I expect that if you try to go heavier (and they're available at 90 gr and above if you look hard) the loss of powder space makes the velocities too low to be practical.
As above, the question really is about the bullet length vs the rifling twist. I've got two 1-9 twist barrels. One on a bolt gun, the other AR. Both will stabilize the Hornaday 75 gr HPBT match bullet. The loads clock 2770 fps out of the 26 inch bolt gun, figure a couple hundred foot seconds less from a barrel 10" shorter. I haven't tried the A-Max, since Hornaday doesn't load it in their ammo, I figure it won't stabilize.
I figure the 77 gr SMK to be too long for a 1-9 barrel. At least one of reasonable length.
