Default Buffer tube

So, thanks to the staking on my M&P 15 I really screwed up the buffer tube when my wrench slipped a few times while taking off the castle nut. Does anyone know who makes the buffer tubes that S&W installs on their guns from the factory? I have found a few on eBay who offer a made in USA mil-spec tube in 7075 aluminum for $25 but that almost seems too cheap. I'd like to stay as close the factory as possible though. Going to call S&W in the AM and see if they can help me any way, too. Not sure if S&W outsources their's or makes them in house. Searched online for hours with no results so I was hoping someone on here could shed some light for me.

I don't know who makes it for S&W but make sure you get the right one, there are two types, milspec and commercial. I believe the commercial one has a slightly thicker OD

It's a mil-spec tube, NOT a commercial tube.

Ok. Thanks. I'll be sure and get the Mil-Spec one. Hoping S&W will help me out when I call them. Whoever staked it did such a "good job" of it, they staked the cuts all the way into the receiver, which I wasn't happy about anyway.

I use the extruded version of this one on both of my ARs (including my S&W):

AR-15/M16 ENHANCED BUFFER TUBE - Brownells

It doesn't require a castle nut, but may require some minor "fitting".

You can use any mil-spec buffer tube on your rifle - it doesn't have to come from S&W.

So you're upset about proper staking of the buffer tube castle nut at the factory? Wow. The mil-spec monkeys on other forums pitch a tent when they see proper staking from a factory rifle.

All you have to do is take a punch and tap back the staking on the castle nut. Then the castle nut will come off without damaging the buffer tube threads. Then replace the castle nut if necessary. No biggie though. All you need is a buffer tube and castle nut. Standard mil-spec is all you need and is not that expensive.

yep any mil-spec tube will do and they all seem to be about the same. Except the S&W tube is mil-spec with the slanted end.
