Default M&P15 Sport - 1st Range Report

I purchased an M&P15 Sport last summer, but I had some high-end neck surgery and have just now been released to go to the range.

The rifle is, in a word, fantastic. Iron sights are spot on from the factory. I added an Osprey 9 power scope on a quick release mount.

It only took about six rounds to get her to zero at 100 yards. One inch groups are easy as pie.

This is a great system and my bud and me took turns at the 100 yard target constantly returning one-inch groups. All day long. Functions like a sewing machine.

All this was with el-cheapo American Eagle .223 ammo.

Thanks to all here who recommended the M&P Sport!

Here are some pix from my original post. Worth repeating.

I'm interested to see how close to zero the scopes is at the next range trip.

The quick release did shake loose a bit. Time will tell. It's all fun though.

My bud is a long range AR15 shooter and we will try some of his match grade ammo next time. He was WAY IMPRESSED with the rifle. And much to his surprise too. He is a Colt guy, of course.

Congrats on finally getting to shoot your rifle and glad to hear you're doing well enough to get out there and enjoy it it. The sport's accuracy is impressive and anyone who has shot one will agree. Let us know how you do with the match grade ammo and post pics.

Congrats on healing up so well. I own a couple M&P Sports, one set up for CQB with a UTG red dot scope, MagPul combat flip sights, installed a quad rail and got rid of the factory front sight and put on a gas block. Has a Mako stock that looks great and comfortable to shoot. The other Has MagPul furniture and a Nkon .223 scope that makes it a tack driver at 100yds. Have better than 3,000 rounds through both and never a malfuntion. Great weapons. RANGER on!

Lady Luck was riding with me on the scope mount and setting.

First shot was only about 12 inches off at 100 yards. My bud is an expert with long range rifles and very handy at zeroing in the crosshairs quickly. Only took a few more shots to zero.

If I had been alone, it probably would have taken me fifty rounds to zero it as I'm admittedly new to scopes. Next challenge is finding out how well the cheap quick release mount works and if it will hold a near zero mounting and dismounting.

My bud really frowned on the quick release apparatus and believes it will not hold zero between exchanges. I'm to naive to know any better.

While I'm rambling here; I'm new to the AR15 platform. I'm learning the in's and out's of this rifle. When I returned home, I field stripped it and cleaned it. All seems to be in order. I've been watching Youtube videos and they have helped.

I'm having a ball. Most fun anyone with my conservative religious upbringing could have! Especially at my age!
