M&P15T ???
I am strongly considering the M&P15T mainly due the package, price and rebate. I have gone through the search function and most of the posts are pretty old concerning this weapon.
Have any of you every had an really bad experiences recently or has the rifle been what you expected. I am looking for something that is reliable and will provide a very long service life. It seems that the more I spend the more precise or accurate the weapon becomes but does that extra money equate to longer life as well.
I would be very happy if I could get 50 to 60K round count from the rifle.
What are your round counts?
What problems have you had?
What parts have you had to replace?
What customizations have you done?
Opinions????
Thank you in advanced, John

The price is the only thing that kept me from buying the 15T. I'm new to the AR platform, didn't want to spend a lot and hate it. I bought the Sport, love it and will one day own the 15T

How many rounds have you put through it? Have you had any trouble with anything? Thanks for the response...

In my opinion, getting anyone with that high of a round count will be difficult. I wish I could run my M&P15T that hard, but at this time I do about 400 rounds or so a month. I don't reload yet, so a case of ammo runs about $300-400. To answer your questions:
- hovering just over the 3,000 round count
- no problem with the rifles function, however I did experience light primer strikes on a few rounds before I changed my trigger group to a Geissele SD-C. I would guess about 11 rounds out of the 3000 or so I've shot. I believe it to be ammo related and NOT due to the rifle.
- I have changed the grip to a Magpul MIAD, the stock to a Magpul ACS-L and added a Magpul VFG all in FDE. This was personal preference, nothing to do with function.
- As far a customizations/optics I have added an Aimpoint PRO in a AD-68 Cantilever Mount and a Primary Arms 3XLER magnifier in a AD swing mount. I really like this setup. Magnifier is only on at the range.
My opinion is buy in confidence. This was my first AR platform and think that the M&P15T just works for what I wanted out of the rifle. Hope this helps.

I bought my M&PT about 8 months ago and have put a couple thousand rounds through it with no problems what so ever...I love it and it has become my favorite rifle. It shoots so nice and smooth, it really is a great rifle. I bought the original model with the Troy furniture, and I liked it so much I put the newer version on order and get to get it out of layaway tomorrow, which is halloween. I cant comment on that one as of yet ,but am looking forward to it being just as good as the original model!

Thank you for the response, I posted the want for high round counts as I generally keep my guns for a long time and just want a real long service life, I plan to shoot about 2-3k rounds per year.
I was also concerned about any part failures, probably due to the price point considering what you get for the money. You seem to get a lot for you money with 15T.
How do you like your primary arms magnifier? I have a Eotech I plan to use with the rifle. Someone else mentioned to me about changing the trigger out as well. I am probably going to go and pick a rifle up this week.

I only have 100 rounds through my Sport. As soon as I bought it, my TV died and I had to spend money on a new one and haven't had time to go back to the range. I can't say anything bad about the quality, but I am a newbie to the AR.

I have about 3000 rounds through my sport and have never had an issue with it. The S&W M&P15's are dependable well built and accurate. For the money they are hard to beat. We have some people who have way higher round counts than I , people who do tactical and 3 gun with their S&W's and they will do nothing but praise their choice in a S&W. It seems since the Monster Storm a few have been missing but when they get back they will concur.

15T
My wife got a 15T right after they first came out. She got it just so she could take carbine classes with me. After a few years and somewhere between 8 and 10 thousand rounds it's still going. Each time we go to the range her M&P 15T comes along so she can practice the drills learned in the classes. Don't see many folks doing that.
The only problem (if you can call it that), is a gas ring wore out. All three rings were replaced at that time. I think the gas ring issue was due to lack of lubrication and improper cleaning.
I don't think she has ever shot factory ammo out of it. We reload for everything that can be reloaded. The most accurate load that she and her shooting coach have come up with is 50gr Nosler ballistic tips and Benchmark powder. 3/8 inch groups at 100 yards even with the less than smooth factory trigger.
A good friend who has recently gotten into rifles (long time shotgunner), liked her 15T so much that he now has one also. And, I should mention that it seems that everybody and their brother has fired her rifle. She has been involved with the NRA Women on Target activities as an instructor, and I have no idea how many ladies have shot her rifle also.
Other than her 15T we have a Bushmaster and a LMT. We think they are all equal.

Since I just bought mine, I can't answer a lot of the questions you asked, but perhaps I can still help.
Personally, I was leaning towards buying an M&PT, but what really sold me was the deal I got on mine.
I don't know if you have a Dicks Sporting Goods around you, but if so, they offer 10% off on any purchase if you apply for their credit card. you also get money back to spend in the store, albeit it may take a couple months to get that.
Those two items alone brought the price of the M&PT down to where it was a real deal. More so than the other rifles in that price point.
I also qualify for S&W's $100 rebate going on right now so that made it a no brainer for me, but even without that, getting $100 off and $60 to spend in the store for ammo/accessories is a good deal IMHO.

The PA magnifier I believe is a great value for a third of the price of others. I have no affiliation with Primary Arms, and will say that their customer service is top notch. I also like that the newer version of the magnifier that they put out has long eye relief which works for me. I compaired it with a Eothech 3X mag and had a hard time seeing any difference. With that said, I rarely shoot over 100 yards and I really do not need a magnifier... I just wanted one

Regardless of model, S&W makes a quality rifle. I've had my T since 2009, and I have roughly 5K rounds through it. The rifle has never malfunctioned.
One member mentioned an issue with the gas rings. Those are maintenance items and do wear out over time and round count. I replace the gas rings on all my AR rifles every 3K rounds.

I have changed many parts over time for personal preference in function and ergonomic fit I have yet to replace a single Ihave one of the early Troy MRF rail & BUIS equipped M&P15T's after S&W moved all manufacturing in house. It's seen some changes since purchasing this carbine in 2010:
Centurion Arms C4 12" quad rail
BCE BattleComp 1.0 muzzle break
Spikes Tactical M16 bolt carrier (S&W bolt still installed)
Spikes Tactical ST-T2 buffer
VLTOR Gunfighter charging handle
Battle Arms ambi safety lever, 45 degree throw
VLTOR IMOD stock
Magpul MIAD pistol grip
Magpul RVG vertical grip
Magpul XTM rail covers on side rails / ladders top & bottom
Troy padded quick adjust 2-point battle sling
Surefire G2/KX4/Z59 light in VLTOR offset Scout mount
Aimpoint T1 Micro 2MOA red dot sight in American Defense QD mount
Although my 15T doesn't much resemble its factory appearance it hasn't really changed operationally save for bolt carrier weight and buffer weight. The bulk of these changes have been weight / handling ergonomic and interface modifications.
What are your round counts?
To date I have put roughly 5, 000 rounds through this carbine.
What problems have you had?
I have yet to experience a malfunction of any sort with this carbine.
What parts have you had to replace?
Though I have done some drop-in modifications I have yet to replace a single part for wear or malfunction reasons.
What customizations have you done?
See top of this post.
Opinions????
Here I have a split opinion. On one hand my 15T has been 100% reliable, very durable, totally dependable. On the other hand S&W asks a premium for this carbine and there are so many great alternatives at the 15T's price point. Were I to do it again I would likely choose a BCM mid-lenght carbine with a lightweight barrel and then build it up from there to what I have now (if for no other reason for the lightweight middy BCM barrel). Having said that I have no regrets whatsoever and I consider my 15T to have been worth my purchase price ($1, 150 out the door if I remember correctly).
