Default spotting scope ?

How many of you guys have a spotting scope for seeing your bullet holes in your targets ? I generally shoot at 100 to 300 yards, can anyone recommend a decent spotting scope without breaking the bank ? I am shooting a 223 rifle so I need to see 22 cal holes.

I have found that spotting scopes are what you pay for them, cheap is junk for sure. I have one I paid about $60.00 for and it's hard to see a .22 hole at 100 yards. If you're looking for good target gear try this site but theirs no such thing as cheap and good in this area:

Most guys I ask at the range say theirs was under $100.00 and is ok but not great. I don't want to spend a small fortune just something thats works fairly well.

I watched Craig's list for one and got a nice like-new Bushnell and case for $100 that was about a $350 scope brand new. Was able to check it out before buying it too.

My wife got me one of these with the advice from a shooting buddy.......

Redfield Rampage 20-60x60mm Spotting Scope Kit FREE S&H 67600. Redfield Spotting Scopes.

Love it! Since Leupold bought out Redfield, it's like getting a Leu spotter at bargain price.

I have been using a 15x -60x Redfield spotting scope since the early 80s. Redfield makes good items and I would assume they are still making something like that, though now it might say Loupold on it. The scope is quite clear and you can easily tell the difference between .22-.25-.30 and .35 calibers on the paper at a hundred yards and probably farther!

That saves a lot of walking up and back and getting maximum use out of target papers.: D

As I originally bought the scope with a short tripod for setting on the shooting bench, I do much more handgun work than rifle work here is a little trick I use. I found a used camera tripod and mounted the scope on it. I now have a bench top if legs are compacted and a scope that is eye level if I’m standing shooting handgun. I did a lot of 100 yard handgun shooting and the high height scope was a great help.

Almost any brand spotting scope will work out to 50 yards for .22 bullets. It takes a quality scope for 100 yard viewing, and serious money to see over 200 yards. Spotting scopes are one of those items that you really do get what you pay for.
