As posted in another thread, just got a M&P 15T, and am vey pleaded with its accuracy with its folding sights, but want to get a dot scope as my vision isn't as good as it used to me. Looking for recommendations for brands and vendors. Also any recommendations for those to stay away from.
Obviously, cost is a factor ( just can't afford an ACOG :-) )
I like Ultradot's with their lifetime warranty but I have only used mine sporadically and generally use a regular scope but there are quite a few red dot owners that can help.

Some good info in the above link.
Based on my budget, I will be receiving a Vortex Strikefire as a Chirstmas gift to myself. No range report yet as it is currently under the tree.
Best of luck.
Burris makes a Surefire III red dot scope. I have one on a MP15, and it shoots well. about half the size of an Eotech, smaller view window, but very accurate. I believe they retail at about $249. You might need a picatinny rail riser to get it high enough to sight thru. Riser rail good prices on amazon. local shops want like freakin $60 when amazon has em for like $20.
