Default Couple More Questions

So I was going to get a 10/22 or 15/22 rifle after Christmas but that has completely fallen thought. The only 10/22 I was able to locate in my area is Hot Pink and they want 500 for it. The only 15/22 I found was over 600 dollars. I will just wait for the panic to end then revisit getting a 22lr. Who knows I might even work my budget a bit and get the 22 rifle I really want Ruger 77/22 even thought there a arm and a leg.

Back on Topic I have a few general questions about my AR 15 and you guys are always helpful.

My first question is what kinda buffer tube is on our rifles? I am going to assume from searching this forum that its a Mil-spec. I am wanting to replace the stock of the gun with one that has storage compartments.

Amazon.com: Magpul ACS Mil-Spec Carb Stock, Black: Sports & Outdoors

Has anyone used one of these and how hard are they to install? I noticed taking off my current stock is extremely easy. The other thing I am curious about is how much overall weight it will add how it will balance with the rifle.

My next question is has anyone had to return anything to midway? I am thinking about going ahead and ordering a

Vortex Optics - StrikeFire Red/Green Dot Low Mount

I cant find one locally thought to check out. To see how my astigmatism affects it. I did check out some random offerings down at the gun range last time I was in there and some where fine and others not so much. I was also told you can co witness it thought the Mbus aperture to help with astigmatism.

Thanks guys for all your help yall really are a extremely helpful bunch.

Midway was really easy to deal with, I returned a faulty set of Lyman Sights a couple of years back. I called them up and they sent me a return slip and it went back no questions.
I would measure your buffer tube to make sure you get the right size of stock. Also the rifles stand a little weight in the rear really well, they tend to be heavier toward the nose, not really nose heavy but it feels like the bulk of the weight is forward of center, on my dream list is a competition style completely adjustable stock for one of my Sports. Seeing as I do very little close range shooting I think it would be cool but that is me and everyone knows I am crazy, If you had been around 8 months ago my Sport changed its appearance weekly, and not just a little bit.

p.s. my rifle changed so much that I was able to build another out of the parts collection that I had!!

Thanks for the quick reply and they are mil spec. I went ahead and ordered the stock. I really like that stock and it has extremely favorable reviews.

Now I just have to decide on if I wanna take a chance on the Vortex. I am really leaning towards giving it a shot. Worse case I have to return it and it sounds like midway will take care of me.

I know they have a no mount policy but that will not be a problem since I should be able to tell with out having to mount it if I can use it.

The only other thing I could think of is to get a scope instead of a aim point but how would that work with my iron sights and whats out there that will not break the bank. I really don't see my self shooting further then maybe 200 yards.

That would be pretty awesome to be able to build a spare out of parts. This is sounding more and more like my tech hobby. I ended up building a file server out of spare parts I had laying around.

I have the Vortex Strikefire and love it. I haven't shot my sport a lot because of the ammo issue(s). I got the AR mount and it's at absolute co-witness. I did not get the green/red dot. I got the red dot only. I have no issues with it at all. Hope it helps

If I do get one I am getting the red dot only. I really don't have any desire to have both red and green why complicate things you know.

Thats just the one that came up on there website is all.

My thing with the "dots":
When I shoot I shoot for the most accurate groups possible, my experience with any of the dot style scopes is the fact that you sight it in so that your bullet is within the dot. I have yet to see someone sight one in where their bullet lands in the exact center of the dot. I have tried myself but I am sure there are better people at it than a I am honestly. The further back you are from your target the more of the bullseye gets covered up with the dot where as with a standard scope, especially one with fine crosshairs and enough magnification, you can pick a very fine point where your bullet is going to hit instead of just the dot. Remember with a 1moa dot that dot covers 1"@100yards and 2"@200yrds. If the dot is any bigger than that it will cover correspondingly more target area at those distances. Just my way of thinking!

+1 what Grover said.

We all have at least one red dot, right? But if you are shooting for groups at any distance, you will end up with a magnified scope, probably 9X or higher.

BTW, if you go with the Vortex Strikefire, your reference is to the low mount. That is the hunters mount, so be sure to order the hi, or tactical mount package.

Everyone needs a spare parts box. I'm new to the AR platform and I've got one started already.
I'm hoping to get another and put a scope on it for tighter groups. That way I have a CQB and a long range rifle. You know for the paper targets that sneak up on you at the range and the ones that make fun of you from far away

I looked and couldn't find a answer might just simply be I am overlooking it but does the strike-fire come with batteries?

I believe it takes 123a's if thats the case I can get "surefire" brand at the local Lowes for 3 dollars a pack.
