Steel cased ammunition in M&P 15 OR
I used the search function and did not find what I was looking for. Will steel cases damage the chroming? Thanks,
Bill

Do you have one of the older OR's? Steel cased ammo wont do your rifle any harm that I have heard of, we have members who use almost nothing but steel cased ammo. I asked about the age because the newer ones have the melonite barrel and the steel cased ammo doesnt hurt it either. Have a great day!!

No. Youll be fine. Worst that can happen is your rifle wont like the ammo. Im one of those that uses steel cased ammo almost exclusively in all my guns, new and old.

Oneyeopen, are you sure about the melonite barrel? I know the new Ts changed from chrome to melonite, but I thought the ORs were till chrome and 1/9 twist.

It's a new one, several parts are chromed though. I didn't want to do any damage and ammunition is very difficult to find around here but have found some Wolf steel case. I haven't sighted it in yet and would like too.
Thanks,
Bill

Won't hurt it, if it will run it. Just make sure you clean the rifle after use, as the steel case doesn't expand like brass and you will have more carbon buildup in the chamber.
