I Finally Cut the Foam in my Pelican Case
After learning how to do it from youtube video's, I cut the foam for my Pelican 1700 case using an Electric Carving Knife. Works pretty good too. A little tricky making right angle turns but it came out fine for my first attempt. I left some space for a tool kit or other future accessories.
Now is it safe to keep the rifle in the air tight case or should it breathe? As long as it's oiled it should be cool right?
Some photo's......

That came out really nice! I have the same case and I totally butchered my foam.
You will have no problems leaving it in the case for extended periods of time.
I was planning on buying replacement foam ($50 ).

Yeah, great job cutting the foam. Being that you live in FL I would recommend you stick a large desiccant pack in there.

Good job. When I cut mine I put in a space for a box of ammo as well.

It's a great case, I love it. A Little bulky / heavy but solid.
I plan to keep a desicant inside as well as other goodies.
The other night as I lay in bed thinking...I was concerned about a fire and all the stuff I would try to grab in a hurry.
So, I decided to keep the AR in this case with some Mag's to help speed up the panic grabbing!
Because I have stuff all over the house.
God, the thought of a house fire is scary.........

Just A thought Milky, you can put the piece of foam you butcherd on the bottom & use the fresh bottom piece to re cut and place on top?
Watch the above video, it's really easy to do.

I just did mine also
I just did mine also. I used the toothpick method to define all of the corners and then connected the dots and cut it wit a serated knife on my leatherman.

NOT a good idea. Over the many years I've been around firearms, more than just a few times I've seen a weapon stored in a case only to see some one pull out a worthless pitted piece of rust. I'd be VERY careful about doing that.
