I never thought about it but we could have probably done a group buy and saved even more money. Next time I will try to approach it that way.

I am new to both the M&P15 and this site, could I also have a PM? I tried a boresnake from Hoppes and returned it to Academy. I had a hard time getting it in to the barrel, the point where the small cord and the fabric came together hung up and I was afraid to pull it hard less it got stuck. Is there a brand other than Hoppes?
Thanks
Thanks

Rogerf..the Hoppes boresnake is the ones that I have. They are caliber specific which I am sure you know. Anyway the first couple of times that you use it it is difficult to get into the barrel. I myself, take the upper off of the lower and point the muzzle down. Drop the weight through the chamber and through the barrel. I then turn the upper with the muzzle up, trying to feed the lower part of the boresnake as straight as possible. I will wrap the cord of the boresnake around something like a screwdriver or pair of Pliers, something I can use to increase my pulling power and then pull it through. Sometimes I have to reposition the tool I am using to get it closer to the boresnake after I have pulled it part way through.
Once you have done this a couple of time it becomes way easier. Boresnakes are washable and after you wash it they become hard to start again. Hope this helps.
oh PM sent!!

OK I found some more cleaning kits for $30, if anyone is looking for them. As a group we have cleaned out a couple of retailers but thats OK, we all like to take care of our rifles.

I'm a huge fan of the Otis kits. The breech-to-muzzle with flexible vinyl-covered cables is brilliant and the quality of their brushes, hardware and patches is superior. It's great to have everything you need to clean every gun you own in a kit the size of a BigMac.
Owned the very kit you're talking about. I don't know why they charge a premium for it, other than because it's "tacticool" with the oxide treatment, and it seems that anything AR related seems to be going at a premium these days. I eventually replaced that kit with their regular tactical cleaning kit after giving the first one away with an M4 I sold to a friend.

Got one today. It covers 17-12 guage and is loaded. Hated going in the place but I had to burn up some Dicks $$ or they'd go to waist. So I got one for "free" (so to speak). They don't have didly for weapons anymore. So I grabbed a spotting scope too. ALL cost me just the tax. It was my last trip in there until they start selling Modern Sorting Rifles again.

The cable is excellent when used with the pull handle. My first Otis cable came as a supplemental set with only the cable, brush, sample patches and CLP tube. Pulling the cable when it's wet with bore cleaner wasn't the easiest thing to do so I cut a slot in a Hoppes cleaning rod plastic handle to use with it.
The complete kit comes complete with a pull handle so it's GTG.

The Otis system is a fine gun cleaning set that I've been using since they first came out with the full kit. Little pricey but what isn't these days. My little tip for you new users is start pinching the cleaning patch a little at a time until you fine the sweet spot that pulls through without being too tight. I then take a new patch and mark the caliber for that gun on it and cut a notch at the area you found the best place to pinch and save them for future reference. This may save you the trouble of pinching the patch in the wrong area and having a patch become stuck.

To save Grover the trouble of PMing everyone you can find the kits on ebay. Do a search for Otis 5.56 Cleaning Kit, and in the left side filters click on "New", set the price range to $20-$30, and select "Free shipping only".
The kits sold by "911militarysurplus" and "morris54mandy" are the ones Grover has been PMing links to.

I am sorry that I cant publish the link in the forum but there are a couple of different sellers that have a total of 12 kits right now. We are not allowed to post links to the online auction sites. But BHarada is giving you the search criteria. I am having some health issues and am not able to get on here as much as I would like to.
