If you can live without a forward assist and dust cover it would be a LOT cheaper to buy the mp15 sport and add the carry handle. Plus IMO you get the better barrel in the 5R. Just food for thought.

Just wondering. Why a carry handle ? I never really cared for them when I had to "live" with an M-16. Myself,I prefer the rail for "what I want add-ons". But each to their own. Good luck.

Zip was totally right on the mark. But the screws on the removable carry handle are so obnoxious, if thats the one you want get it. The other barrel is accurate, its just not the 1:8 5R barrel.

If you want to stick mostly with irons (and dont mind having a scope mounted WAY up high) OR you are military trained and used to it OR you like the look I imagine a carry handle option is ok. My former marine buddy is wanting one for his because of the first 2 reasons. I briefly considered it because I like iron shooting but it also adds weight and when I realized I wanted my scope lower I ruled it out. Opted for the Troy tritium battle sights and saving for either a burris A332 with quick detach mounts or the ACOG ta01nsn. Still can't decide!

I prefer buis with a close to rail large cross hair scope (40-50) and been known to add 45 off-set buis to be usuable with the scope. Handle would make it way too tall.

I just prefer that "old school" look. If I want to mount a scope that option will come later. I do want the forward assist and the dust cover also. I just have to wait for the prices to come down first.

Carry Handle
Absolutely get what you want man! I know I learned a lot here that helped me with my choices so I just point out what I feel are pros and cons. But those are just my thoughts and not my rifle! Any way you go there is no WRONG way....just different ways.

you also can buy a flip up rear sight that will work with your front sight. My personal choice would be the matech rear sight that has markings and a selector that will adjust your sight for different ranges. but just about any good rear sight would line up with your front sight.

That's a great point. If your optics fail in a BAD situation - if you know what I mean - the last thing you want to have to do is install your carry handle. Lets hope none of us have to ever use our rifle in that capacity but IMO better safe than sorry.
