NRA drops lifetime membership to $300
This is a great deal .......... especially for those of you that are a lot farther away from your final "slide to glory" than I am.

Do it online. It took me all of five minutes...and that was with me mis-entering my CC # the first time I submitted the form.

Great. So those who have been lifetime members for a few years are still further away from paying it off then those who join today. The least the NRA can do is to extend that price to those who are still chipping away at the $700 lifetime fee.

Well, I look at it like this; I could spend a lot of time writing and calling my representatives, perhaps go to Washington and march around, etc and I still wouldn't have the effect that an organized group like the NRA has. Love them or hate them they are often the lone voice that stands up for our constitutional right which a bunch of fast talking politicians are trying to weaken every day.
Everyone should take seriously that these politicians are very patient and crafty. They know that there will be a revolt if they go too far but they also know that year by year they can chip away at our rights and if all we do is grumble then they win. We should also think about our kids and grand kids when the politicians offer to let us keep the weapons we already have but prohibit future legal sales. They are taking advantage of our greed to get us to agree to cheating the next generations out of their constitutional rights.
And, as many have already said; The second amendment is not about duck hunting or skeet shooting! It is about protecting yourself and your family from enemies foreign and domestic. Ask someone who lives near the Mexican border where home invasions by gangs of ruthless killers are on the rise how many rounds they ought to be able to legally have at the ready to protect their family. Go to youtube and look up what Mayor Bloomberg said when a journalist asked if he would be willing to have his bodyguards give up their guns since he is so in favor of denying that right to all of the people he is employed by.

While I upgraded to a life membership, I agree that the NRA should extend the $300 price to those chipping away at a $700 or $1000 EPL. For those who have paid up less than $300 a chance to pay the difference. For those who paid up over $300, close the payment and issue a life membership.
Have you called the NRA to ask? If the NRA doesn't agree, let me (us) know. I'm writing my elected representatives every week. I'll pester the NRA every week on behalf of folks in your situation.

The gains? While I do not agree with everything the NRA does, the NRA is the 500lb gorilla in the fight to preserve the rights affirmed by the 2nd Amendment. The only thing that elected officials truly care about is holding onto their office. The more members the NRA has, the more leverage they can exert on politicians.
The NRA is a single issue grass roots organization. What the media misrepresents the NRA as being an organization controlled by few. The NRA is only as powerful as it's individual member's vote during elections for public office. The NRA's membership is more likely to turn out for the polls, and the NRA does a good job mobilizing it's member base. This is what politicians respect and fear.
What is the estimate of number of firearms owners in the US? 90M? The membership of the NRA is around 4M? The fight to preserve the rights as affirmed by the 2nd Amendment is like pulling a heavy wagon, uphill. 4M NRA members are pulling the weight for 90M. When you join, you help pull the wagon and stop mooching a free ride.
What do life members get that yearly members do not? Life members get to vote in NRA board elections.
The other 500lb gorilla in the fight to preserve the rights as affirmed by the 2nd Amendment (IMO) is the 2nd Amendment Foundation. I'm a yearly member of the 2nd Amendment Foundation.

As I said, I don't agree with everything the NRA does. This is one of them. I'm writing the NRA every week.
The NRA urges us to write our elected officials every week to affect change. NRA life members vote for NRA board members. If any fellow NRA life members want to join me in writing the NRA to express displeasure at the treatment of NRA members on EPL programs, feel free.
Those on EPL payment plans, write. Eventually you'll become life members, and you'll get to vote for NRA board members. Remind them of that.

For the $30 a year membership one of the benefits I feel is overlooked is that all members are able to receive the $2,500 of ArmsCare firearm coverage. This plan covers firearms, air guns, bows and arrows against theft, accidental loss, and damage. So let's say you have a gun stolen or that you go hunting and left your rifle in the back of your pickup and forgot to close the gate..you drive off and the rifle is forever gone. The NRA ArmsCare will help insure you and get you a new one... That and that they are using your membership dues to help fight those against the 2nd amendment through lengthy court battles and costly lawyer fees, and you get a free magazine subscription to American Rifleman is worth a whole lot more than $30, wouldn't you agree?. Benefits of Membership

Just signed my 14 year old son up with a life membership! I have been a life member for many years, at least 15 years if not 20+.

Praire-I know the feeling. I signed my 13 year old son up as well. I didn't even ask him I just did it. He told me "Thanks Dad " when I told him about it. Yes, I was smiling. I also finally joined as well. I remember the last "Ban" and the female senator from California who instigated it. I keep asking myself surely there is someone from her district that can unseat her. It can't happen soon enough.

If they tell me the same, I will be cancelling my membership. Then they will change their tune. I was a yearly member for 15 years before joining the EPL payment plan about three years ago. It only reinforces the notion that all they want is money. It makes zero sense to ask long time members to pay more than new members who haven't contributed a dime.

I am too old and feeble for that to be a bargain vs. annual membership. I won't even buy green bananas.

Do they offer a payment plan for the $300, or is it a one time charge?

As far as I can tell it's a one time payment.

I too joined the ranks of Life Membership, yesterday. I have been an annual member for more years than I can count. And pushing 80, but feel we must pay the piper now, before there is nothing left.
The puzzling thing to me with the NRA is there are several plans out there to become a Life Member. The first number I called, she wanted $600. I told her I was retired military, and a disabled vet. I wanted the $300 offer. Couldn't do it at that phone number, but had to call 1-800-672-3888. At this number the offer for a disabled vet was $375. Nope, want the $300 offer. OK, we can do that. Wish they'd get their act together and make it uniform across the board.

Your comment on "unseating her" leads me to this mini-rant that I have . In my opinion, we are losing control of things like the second amendment because the 17th amedment diluted the 10th amendment! The 17th amendment took the power of the States to appoint representative to the Senate and thus created 100 targeted positions for special interests at a National level. Senators are no longer representing their States as their primary goal. They are constantly building backing for the next National pool of money for the next election.
If we want to keep our 2nd amendment rights, we need to overturn the 17th amendment and return the country to operating based on the 10th amendment.
My 2 cents!

Anyone know if the NRA still offers free legal counsel to life members if they are ever involved in a self defense use of their firearm?
Didnt see it mentioned on the website but recall it in the package at one time.

Calm down, when the enemies such as Cuomo fired the first shot, now you want to quit because your fellow fighter screwed a little bit on you? this is not even 1% as bad as what the enemy is doing to you!

I disagree. The NRA has had an increase in membership due to pending legislation (a good thing). They're taking advantage of that to make money. When this dies down (and it will), those who paid the $300 will cease to care and go away, but their check will already be cashed. It would take 9 years of yearly membership dues to get what they will get in one payment. Most of the new members will not sustain that membership for that long. If you think it's anything more than that, you are deluding yourself. The NRA is a business, and they exist to make money.
You think Wayne LaPierre is more concerned about your gun rights or his expense account, salary, and other benefits?

If I thought the NRA was a business or Wayne LaPierre was about his salary I'd resign today. As I said earlier, best $300 you can ever spend, IF you care about keeping your Second Amendment rights.

If I can recall correctly, there was a time when the NRA was also offering life members the opportunity to upgrade to one of the superlife levels at a significant discount. This was before I was a life member but I still seem to remember that. If they did that again, I would consider upgrading as well.

The levels are:
Annual
Life
Endowment
Patron
Benefactor
Every few years I was offered the chance to increase my level at a discount, and did so. I figured that I'd saved a significant amount of the payment by not having to pay the annual membership over those years.
Actually, there are more recognition levels, but that involves additional annual fees.

Quit whining. When the gun grabbers have their way you can join the Sierra Club and beef about them. Your dues probably just cover the costs associated with your magazine subscription and membership. If you really want to help, send a few bucks to the ILA and PVF. if you want something for nothing sign on to a government program. Obama has a plethora of them.

Any organization that you join is imperfect. That is the nature of people. What the NRA offers that you don't have without such a group is their ability to wield a "big stick".
There is no other organization that can mass the numbers they have in protecting your 2nd Amendment rights. Frankly, without them we would probably be as bad or worse off than England or Australia when it comes to bearing arms.
Even though I have had a problem with a few of the NRA's stands taken in the past, they are right 90 percent of the time and I can live with that. There are other organizations that do good work, and deserve your support, i.e. GOA, JPFO,etc. I wish I could support all these organizations, but as a working class guy with a family to support I must be judicious in my selections.
As to those that call it a money making business, who can keep the lights on without money? All nonprofits have the begging cup out perpetually, they don't have a product or service to sell and rely on the gratuity and generosity of donations or memberships to stay afloat.
You may think, "they are so big my one more membership won't make a difference". You are wrong. A family friend ran for state senate in a heavily democratic area, i.e. bleeding heart liberal. He won his seat by 10 votes. If those 10 people stayed home and thought "he can't win in this liberal stronghold", he would have lost. He went on to win his next election also. If he had failed in the first election, Virginia would be bereft of one of strongest pro-2nd amendment Commonwealth Attorneys (Attorney General) that have ever held that office. Sometimes what appear to be insignificant choices matter.
For less than the cost of 100 rounds of JHP ammo you can join for a year. The rounds will be gone with a one hour visit to the range, the membership gives the NRA the financial wherewithal to fight for a year. It really is a good bargain.
How many of you have gone here:
NRA-ILA | Write Your Reps
and let your voice be heard? Be heard! Do it before the government is cutting up our firearms like the Aussies suffered a decade ago.
In less time than it takes to read this post you could rap on the door of your elected representatives. You do not have to be a member of the NRA to do this.
I'll get off my soapbox now. I am a long time lurker, but a first time poster.

Was going to up my membership to life today and at the last minute, decided to give it to my son. He wasn't an NRA member until today. Now he's a life member and doesn't even know it yet!

I just upgraded to lifetime. I enrolled the LOML for lifetime as well.
I also gave an annual gift membership to a deserving military enlistee.

Just curious...The link above takes you a page with one option (a $300 lifetime membership). But if you navigate to the membership page through NRA's homepage, it's $1,000. Just makes me wonder if the link is legit?

I'm not sure if it was when I turned 62 or 65 but they offered me a life membership for either $200 or $300 and I jumped on it and bought it. I guess they figured I had paid in all those years and I deserved a break.

I believe so. It's a promo in conjunction with AR15.com and is on their site as well.
However, you can call directly which is just as efficient:
Current NRA members 1-888-678-7894
Non-NRA members 1-800-672-3888

My NRA life member packet finally arrived in the mail yesterday...with enough paraphernalia to insure that I'm persecuted wherever I go here in the "great" state of California.
I'm gonna have to buy me a shooting vest so I have someplace to sew the patch onto.
