New Sport Owner with Questions..
I just noticed the stamp on my barrel and its 5.56 NATO 1/9. I thought I was getting 1/8.
Is it a problem? Will I notice a difference? Can I still fire .223 and 5.56?
Mine came with a PMAG 30 with a 10 round capacity. Today I finally managed to get some rounds and loaded the mag. It went passed 10. It currently has 20 Federal 5.56 in it?
Is that supposed to happen? Can you overfill it? This is basically my first AR.
Thanks for your help.

Ralph1769, There is another thread that discusses the 1/8 and 1/9 twist in Sports. Apparently S&W changed from 1/8 to 1/9 for 2013. You can still shoot 5.56 and .223 just fine. The Sport ships with a PMAG 30 round magazine and you can indeed put 30 rounds in the magazine. Enjoy the shooting.

Sorry johnjeff
So even if it says 10 rounds I can still fit 30 rounds in it?
I live in Florida and Im afraid I was sold Sport that is CA Compliant with 10 + 1.
I want to be able to use 30 round mags.

If the magazine says "PMAG 30" on the side near the bottom, then it is a 30 round magazine.
See this thread for barrel questions. m&p sport, wrong barrel

Mine have 10's on them too. It's a 30 round mag. You can actually put 31 rounds in them.
The 10 round mags are really short!

If you are looking at the left side of the magazine and the 10 appears under M8, or X1, or some other marking, then it is some type of manufacturing code, possibly mold number or the like.
A PMAG 30 holds 30 rounds...hence the 30 in the name.

Thats the way it looks man. It says M2 above the 10. Both sides of the Mag state "PMAC30 ". Very relieved I dont have a 10 rounder.

If you do this, you probably won't be able to snap the cover onto the top of the magazine, or you may find it difficult to insert the magazine when the bolt is closed.
If you have either of those issues, check to see how many rounds you stuffed in there.

Do you have any other concerns that make you believe you received a CA compliant model? If you insert the magazine, and then you are able to push the magazine release with your finger and remove the magazine, then you do not have a CA compliant model.
Also, even a CA compliant model can accept 30 round magazines today...that may change in the future with their laws, but today they can accept any standard AR-15 magazine.

thanks cyphertext. I was just concerned about seeing that 10 on my mag. The SKU is 811036 and the mag comes out like butter when I push the release button, so I have a good rifle

Well I only ran 100 rounds to it(Im low on funds and wanted to save some ammo for home )
I am very satisfied with this weapon. No jams or misfires. I also purchased a TangoDown mag and it too didnt have any problems. So far, I love it.

Did you get decent groupings? Does it seem accurate?

Yep, I may have not had my sights lined up right, because I was mostly hitting low to the right of the center rapid fire. Not far off.

The dealer swapped the Ca. compliant mag for a regular one- or pulled the magazine block out for you since you do not need one in Florida.
And, look at it this way: My DPMS is more accurate than my Sport in back to back tests with 55gr ammo, and with 62 gr. hunting ammo (Federal Fusion). Not much more accurate, but yes, to be fair and truthful, the DPMS can keep a .3" tighter group at 100 yds over my Sport. The DPMS has a 1:9 barrel on it, with about 6000-6500 rounds thru it. The Sport is approaching 10K. I lost count...............
You will be very happy with the 1:9 barrel.
