Spare uppers
I am just curious as to how some of the other forum members transport a second or third upper with them when they go to the range or shooting events. Me, I'm using a double rifle bag at the moment. The bag I have holds the assembled rifle real well, the loose upper, not so well. The spare slides out of the straps. The divider keeps them from banging together. But it is annoying as hell. Anyone have any suggestions? Other than a Pelican case.

You can get a large Flambeau , gun guard or plano hard plastic rifle case. They arent as pricy as a pelican, you dont have to cut out the foam and they will hold the items securely. I have a soft case for my Sport that I will use if I am going shooting for multiple days in a row. Other than that it lives in a very large Flambeau rifle case I got off of Amazon for around $60. It protects the rifle very well, travels well and opens up for easy access. I cant do it presently because of my large optics but I would almost bet If I broke the rifle in half I could carry 2 uppers and 1 lower in the case I have now.

That's a good idea, I have a hard sided double shotgun case around here somewhere. I'll give that a try.

I carry my lower with the 223 attached, a blackout upper, and a 22 upper all in the same aluminum case with a scope and six mags. It's starting to get heavy and it's probably at capacity, but it's working!

At least u still shoot your 5.56. I cant justify shooting my 5.56 since I've went the .300 route. My 5.56 has now become a useless safe queen.

When I head to the range, I normally have at least 2 rifles if not more plus a pistol. I have a range bag with tools, a range bag with mags and ammo. A plastic ammo can with ammunition, chronograph and electronic headphones. I also take a shooting rest and if where I am going shooting doesnt have tables (which is almost everywhere I go shooting) I will take a shooting table and chair, plus target stand and then swinging targets or gongs. I have tried to figure out a way to reduce what I take but I just cant so I take everything but the kitchen sink.

Will be shooting the 5.56 till I can find a decent price and available locally the .300blk. The UMC 115g. stuff around here is going for $25.96. If you can find it. I have got 7 pmags, I can fill them up each about 30ish times before I run out of 5.56. I'm still waiting on my .300 dies to get here. That should be Wed.
You sure you didn't pack the sink in there somewhere Grover?

Hey Oneye, How close can you get your vehicle to the firing line? The reason I ask is because during the off season(hunting) we do alot of shooting out on our property and I built a bench/table/seat that fits into the class 3 hitch reciever on my Tahoe. It works great and you don't have to hire a sherpa to help you move it. I have a picture of it somewhere around here. As soon as I find it, I'll post it up.

I want to see this also...In my case the firing line is wherever I park my truck. We only have one rifle range in the area and its 90 miles away. I go up there for long range shooting competitions. I have been used to going out to our farm and setting up a range at whatever distance I wanted. Now I have to consider everything because at some of the places I cant put my truck at the firing line. Other places I will still be able to. So adjustments now have to be made!! I still can shoot behind my house, there I use a garden tractor and trailer to haul everything to set up.

I've seen someone make an adapter piece that is basically an upper receiver with extra pins. Then u mount your original complete upper on it facing backwards (barrel pointing towards the back). So this makes the whole weapon fit into the normal size backpack. The barrel sticks out of the backpack a little bit, but the weapon is pretty much complete and together.

I started out years ago with one rifle per case and have stuck to it,esp. with MSR's with scopes. The newer larger soft cases with all the padding and pockets for everything also work great.
You could also use the packing foam sheet that comes with the rifle in the box and just wrap that around your upper to protect it too. It does work great.
Haven't seen a hard sided case that I like for a reasonable price that will hold two scoped MSR's and not be banging together.

LbulletM,
That case looks a bit crowded with those heavy items for the foam to adequately keep them apart.
What you might want to consider is adding Velcro straps to help keep them in place, much the way my compound-bow case is set up.
Figure out the best location for each major part, then cut a slit in the foam to run a section of Velcro through on each side of it. Epoxy the Velcro to the case behind the foam.
Two or three pairs of Velcro strips for each part, together with the foam padding, ought to keep things from banging into each other.

So far I haven't had any issues, but I might go ahead and add the velcro just as a precaution. Thanks for the tip Robotech!
