Default Sport Fixed Stock - Change to Collapsable?

I recently purchased a 811037 Sport w/ fixed stock.
I live in WA (no restrictions) and would like to change to a Magpul CTR collapsable stock.

Can this be done? Is it a direct replacement?
Do I need to modify the buffer tube, etc?

Thanks for the help.

Eric

Yes you will have to change the entire assembly, plus you will have to replace the buffer and spring. They use a longer buffer in the fixed stock models. It isnt hard to do, there are videos on youtube. Be careful when you pull the buffer tube not to lose the buffer retainer and spring. I may be interested in your fixed stock, I have kicked around the thought of a fixed stock for a while. I had a CTR on my other Sport and it is a great stock. My present one is still wearing the factory collapsible with a butt pad

I think there is some miscommunication going on... Ethomps, do you have a fixed stock, or is it a collapsible stock that has been pinned to a fixed position??

I have the 811037 model.
The stock is fixed, I believe that it is "pinned" in place.

Though to be fair, this is all new to me.

Thanks. Eric

I havent seen any pinned stock other than here, but wouldnt any mil-spec butt stock go on in place of his present one, but only go to the one location?

OK, if that is new, out of the box, then it looks like the standard collapsible stock, but is pinned so that the lever will not move, and also only has one adjustment hole drilled in the receiver extension (buffer tube).

If this is what you have, and you want to go to a collapsible stock, then yes, you will need to replace the receiver extension as well. If you want to replace just the stock piece, but are not concerned with it being collapsible, I have read that you can put another collapsible type stock on the existing extension. You would have to drill the hole on the extension out so that it is large enough for a standard stock locking mechanism to fit. From what I have read, the compliant version locking mechanism is smaller than standard.

If you want the "standard" rifle fixed type stock, then you would need to replace the receiver extension as well, as the carbine length is shorter.

ETA: No first hand experience with this one...just from what I read when contemplating getting a compliant version as they were readily available when I was looking.

Hmmm, i thought "pinned" stocks LOOKED collapsable, but you cant move the stock due to some form of staking, so i would think changing out buffer tube with the same spring and buffer, just swap out the stock would work...my internet is acting weird, cant watch youtube video to make sure what im seeing in my mind is the real deal...lol

I think you can just unpin it and replace with another, cyphertext is probably dead on about having to drill out the hole a little bit.

Thanks everyone for the information.

I don't necessarily need a collapsable stock... was interested in what it would take if I decided to go that direction.

I am more interested in replacing the stock it came with for one that is more "comfortable" to me. It sounds like I could simply put on a Magpul MOE w/ pad extension by slightly drilling out the existing hole.

For now, I am going to just shoot it... I'll admit I am experiencing a bit of first time owners excitement and am all over the place researching what I can and can't do, etc.

Eric

Eric it is called the EBR disease and it seems to affect Sport owners often. It also is better to ask questions than end up with a parts store in your parts bin from all the pieces you tried and didnt work for you! been there still doing that!
