How to eliminate the scratchy noise?
New Tactical, when I pull back the charging handle, it sounds atrocious, akin to nails on a chalk board. I understand all AR's do this to some degree, I've grown up with the M16 and M4. This one is baaaaad though.
What will reduce or eliminate this?

they make things to cover the buffer spring...thats what you are hearing. JP Enterprises makes a buffer with a trapped spring that is supposed to be noiseless. MaddMax can post the link, I dont remember where he found them.

Try a little grease...lubrication will probably help.

On it. I'd call them to make sure you get the right buffer though. You want the JPSCS-15. NOT the JPSCS-10 (for 308). The link will show you what it is/looks like.
Eliminates Annoying, Raspy Buffer & Spring Noises
Drop-in captured-spring recoil system helps your AR function more smoothly and quieter without any permanent modifications. The carefully balanced, custom-ground buffer spring, combined with the JP LMOS buffer, greatly reduces friction and vibration - say goodbye to the annoying “spoon over a cheese grater” noise of conventional springs and buffers. Fits buffer tubes for both M4-style collapsible stocks and also, using the included spacer, the longer tubes for fixed rifle stocks.
SPECS: Stainless steel and hard polymer. 7" OAL. Nylon spacer – 15⁄8" long. Instructions included. JPSCS-15 fits AR-15/M16/M4. JPSCS-10 fits AR-style .308 rifles, including DPMS LR-308, ArmaLite® AR-10®. Does not fit Rock River Arms LAR-8.
AR-15/AR-STYLE .308 JPSCS SILENT CAPTURED SPRING SYSTEM | Brownells

Heh, for $140, I'll just live with it
Although, that does look like an interesting part. It is an 'upgrade' per se, or just designed to work as the original system.

It is supposed to be an upgrade. I really like the looks of it and I do have one on my wish list. But it is down lower on the list!

I may have misunderstood...I thought the noise is from the charging handle moving inside the upper, not the buffer and spring.

and I may have misunderstood, I have heard the scratchy noise in my buffer tube frequently. I do put a small amount of hi-temp copper grease on my charging handle

I've heard some dry gritty charging handles in my day,but not the "nails on a chalk board" sound like he was referring to. I have heard some nasty sounding springs though. Pulled one out of an old M-16 A1 years ago that had some how gotten all tangled up and re-sprung. ??? That was weird, like it tried to eat itself.
