Default Good News/Badd News ? Boys & Girls

Last night I got an email (Late),from a close friend that I also work with. He had went to Cabela's yesterday and found a S&W M&P Sport on the shelf. They actually had 3 total (at that second). He bought one in the box. $750. out the door. It also came with 1-30rd PMag. That Cabela's had no 5.56/223,a few 9's,no 45's either. The other two M&P Sports were gone before he left the store. Guy at the counter said that M&P Sports are catch as catch can.

The bad news is,it's the 1in9 twist. GREAT NEWS is,it still DOES have the Melonite barrel. His barrel is marked 1in9 5.56 NATO. So,we/it might have lost the 5R too ??? At least we still get a 30rd PMag with it.

The other "funny" thing that happened. Some "Nut" was bragging about how much better the BM was over the M&P Sport and he should buy the other BM insted and in a second breath said he'd never trade his RR for anything.

Yep, they are no longer offering a 5R rifling on the Sport. When I called S&W and asked, they told me that to get the 1:8 twist, 5R rifling, I would need to buy the 15T, as it would only be used on the premium rifles. I thought that was odd, since the 15T was really a Sport with a quadrail, forward assist, and dust cover. Now we are seeing that the 15T is showing up with a different barrel as well.

I think the only way to get a 1:8 twist, 5R rifled barrel now is to buy the VTAC II, or the MOE. Those would be the premium rifles in the S&W line up.

I do think it is strange that the 1:9 barrel being used is still a Melonite barrel though. Why wouldn't they just use the barrel they use for the 15, 15OR, and 15X? Wouldn't using the same barrel across those products lower cost?

NOT Yet. All's ya gotta do is look before you buy and tell the LGS what you're looking for.

There's a "boat load" of 1in8s still out there.

As for the 1in9 melonite,I'm game. Just gotta get the loads dialed in and make it talk to you...
