I understand the Gen2 is the same as a Gen1 minus the dustcover.

I was reading an ad that stated that the dust covers were no longer being supplied with the mags. Can't remember where tho.

I read back when the fiasco started that they would be minus the dust covers. I assumed at the time it was to get them out the door faster.

Minus the covers, probably because the covers do not attach to the bottom of the Gen3 as they did the Gen2.

From what I understand, the Regular Gen 2 and the Regular Gen 3 have dustcovers.
Only the MOE editions do not

The next-generation PMAG 30 GEN M3 is a 30-round 5.56x45 NATO (.223 Remington) polymer magazine for AR15/M4 compatible weapons. Along with expanded feature set and compatibility, the GEN M3 incorporates new material technology and manufacturing processes for enhanced strength, durability, and reliability to exceed rigorous military performance specifications.
Modified internal and external geometry also permits operation with a wide range of non Colt-spec platforms such as the HK® 416 and MR556A1, M27 IAR, British SA-80, FN® SCAR™ MK 16/16S, and others. A redesigned bolt catch notch in the rear of the magazine provides increased bolt catch clearance, while an over-travel stop on the spine helps ensure the magazine will not over-insert on compatible weapons.
Similar to the MOE PMAG, the GEN M3 features a long-life stainless steel spring, four-way anti-tilt follower and constant-curve internal geometry for reliable feeding, and simple tool-less disassembly to ease cleaning. In addition, an included pop-off Impact/Dust Cover can optionally be used to minimize debris intrusion and protect against potential damage during storage and transit. Low profile ribs and new aggressive front and rear texture gives positive control of the GEN M3 in all environments, and a paint pen dot matrix has been added to the bottom panel of the body to allow easy marking by the end user for identification. The new, easy to disassemble flared floorplate aids extraction and handling of the magazine while providing improved drop protection, but is slightly slimmer than before for better compatibility with tight double and triple magazine pouches.
Made in U.S.A.
Features
Next-generation impact and crush resistant polymer construction
Modified dimensions allow for wider compatibility with non Colt-spec platforms
Constant-curve internal geometry for smooth feeding
Anti-tilt, self-lubricating follower for increased reliability
Long life USGI-spec stainless steel spring
Over-travel insertion stop on the spine
Ribbed gripping surface and new aggressive front and rear texture for positive magazine handling
Paint pen dot matrix panels on the bottom of the body to allow for identification marking
Flared floorplate aids magazine handling and disassembly yet is slim enough for use with many double and triple pouches
Pop-off Impact/Dust Cover to minimize debris intrusion and for additional protection in storage and transit

This is correct. The Gen.3 has a new style dust cover that will only fit Gen.3 mags. The MOE is just a Gen.2 minus the dust cover and supposedly a little less cost.

Agreed, my rifle came with an MOE and no dust cover. In addition, I have bought 4 Gen 2s with dust covers, 5 Gen 3 20rnders with dust covers and, 10 Gen 3 30rnders with dust covers.

They improved the feed lips and four-way anti-tilt follower so they don't need the dust covers. All the dust cover mainly did was keep the rounds aligned in the top of the mag.
They had a write up about the new mags not that long ago on their home page.

The vast majority seem to be choosing the Gen2 over the Gen3.

Do you know why? The Gen3s I have seem nice and not really that different from the Gen2s.

No clue, i've just been reading here and there.
Someone said something about the 5.56 20rd. I think they said the Gen3 has more slope to the mag versus the Gen2 was straighter. And some other BS things that people recognize, lol
IMO, the first gen ones work just fine.

They will be coming out with Ranger Plates to fit the Gen.3 mags when things slow back down. Where did you get your Gen.3 mags? They should have come with dust covers. Mine that I got in the mail today have them.
