Serial # prefix SR
I recently purchased a S&W M&P-15. The serial # begins with "SR". What does that mean?

It is just an Identifier, My sport began with an SP and I thought that it stood for sport but I found out that other peoples sports didnt start that way. I dont believe it stands for anything but then I could be wrong.

Agreed. Smith typically changes the alpha portion of the serial number for every X,000 of the model made. I don't know the actual number. Mine is from the SN batch. If I had a SR, I'd tell everyone it stood for Sporting Rifle.

I probably would have come to the same conclusion. In fact, I thought that "SR" might stand for "service rifle." I appear to have been wrong. LOL.

My M&P 15 S/N starts with MP. Always figured that stood for "Money Pit".
