Question VFG vs AFG

I currently have a grip/bi-pod combo, but my particular model (t-pod G2) which I really like I'm also finding to be a bit heavy and large/bulky. I'm kind of wanting to take my 15x in more of a CQB direction and think I can sacrifice a bi-pod option. So I'm thinking of getting a smaller VFG (think magpul MOE) or an AFG. I spent several years as an accounting clerk and it did some damage to my wrists with all that time at the keyboard so I need some kind of grip up front to help out there.

Clearly it's going to be my choice in the end, but I would certainly welcome any input/experience/opinions, likes/dislikes about VFG's or AFG's.

Thanks.

I have had just about all the options up front. I am not a fan of the VFG it feels just like my GripPod. I still have my GripPod (mil-surp) but doubt I will ever use it again. I may sell it. I installed an AFG a few months ago and it is great. the Angle allows your hand/wrist to sit at a comfortable angle with still great control. I also like the way it doesn't hang up on things as much. But to be honest everyone is different. I just think the AFG makes for a slicker front end on my Sport. I think I have the AFG2, my memory doesn't always work and I have purchased so many parts in building up 2 Sports plus a heinz57 out of leftover pieces. I really like the option of the finger stop or not on it. I use the stop some people may not. Hope this helps.

Oneyeopn's advice is just the way I feel as well. Started off with vertical grips and then tried an AFG. The AFG just has a much more natural feel. Not the the vertical grip was bad. Just that the AFG is much more comfortable. Your wrists are at a much more natural position and straighter when gripping the AFG. When I was running a vertical grip, I gripped it in the same manner I hold the AFG (thumb over top of rail, first finger under rail and mid finger to pinky on the vertical grip). That was a more controlled grip on the vertical grip setup for me. And since I found that to be the way "I" liked to hold, I decided to go the AFG route as it is designed for that style of grip.

To each their own I guess. I just think the ergo's of the AFG are better when gripping in its designed manner.

That's exactly how I hold mine, I feel it more comfortable this way.

Well, having had both, on my RRA, and also having wrist (elbow actually) issues, here is my take.

I had a VFG originally. A Knights Armament. Still have it actually, along with the rail covers. They are all packed away now though.
I didnt like how tall the VFG was, but otherwise liked it. Read a lot about the AFG from Magpul and thought what the heck. Ill give it a shot, lots of guys seem to really like it.
Plus, I never held the VFG like a VFG. I only had about half my hand on it anyway. Modified grip you might say. I know there is a technical name for the way I hold it, as many others do to, but cant recall it right now.
Anyway, I installed the AFG. Felt very odd. Never got better.
Ended up ordering a Magpul VFG, which is significantly shorter than the Knights. Works perfectly for me.

Now, my difference in hold might be relevant too, since you mentioned wrist issues. Mine technically is an elbow issue. My left doesnt straighten all the way. Its close, and no one ever notices unless I point it out, but its enough that it can cause issues in VERY rare circumstances. Been that way for over 20 years, and it doesnt affect me much except when I dead lift or hold that darn AFG.
I have to use a backward grip when deadlifting, as in right hand under, left over, and all is well. Go the other way, and things dont go well.
When I over pronate my arm, as when holding the AFG, its very awkward for me. Using the modified grip and a shorter VFG works just fine, so thats how I do it.
Plus it gives me a place to mount the tape switch for my Surefire 660.

You would be surprised how comfortable it is going back to just some plain ol handvaurds over your rail with maybe a handstop

I do have some of the ergo grip lowpro ladder rail covers, which are a nice improvement. I still much prefer something additional to improve ergonomics first and foremost, but also to give increased control.

I really appreciate the feedback so far. I'll probably just have to try a few options, buying from someplace with a generous return policy.
