It'll eat it like a fat dude eats Chinese food. All I feed my sport is Tula.

In my case I have had 3 fte in mp15A. It was on my second range trip, with only about 300 rounds ran through it. I was told to run the gun a little wetter when shooting steel cased ammo. But now that she is fully broken in I shoot what ever I can get my hands on with no problems. I have found wolf to be slightly better than Tula.

I've shot a lot of Wolf ammo with zero issues. Just clean the bore real good afterwards and you'll be fine.

Rock River used to say NO STEEL CASED AMMO, they do tend to have tighter chambers, and the steel doesn't have a lot of "forgivness", so I stay away from steel. Billy

Here's some data:

http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/bras...el-cased-ammo/

I personally do not use steel cased ammo; I had an SKS rendered inoperable from Wolf ammo. The primer pierced and the pressure and powder bent and scorched the firing pin so bad it wouldn't move anymore. (And thus wouldn't fire.)

Your M&P should operate fine with Wolf or Tula. Personally I don't use them but that is because is mainly because I try to use American made ammo.

I took my 6920 out and didnt think a thing about it it would not cycle steel ammo very well
I started to do some research and the more I read individule account and manufactures recommendations I have decided to stay away in my ARs

I think its hard on them OR
Tell a lie enough it is percieved as truth

But I dont think the manufactures would state it if they were not sure

Here is an example its a shame I have a 7.62 x 39 Olympic I would love to burn steel ammo

What ammo should I use?

Hank

Manufacturers state a lot of things for other reasons. S&W still says not to shoot +P in their semi autos

This is part of the reason I like to follow the TPR sheet. I know there are some who seem to think its garbage but at least I know what the parts were made from, how they were coated, how they were made. If you take other companies that dont follow that how do you know if it was the ammo of the sub par material that was used to make the part that broke? (im not picking on S&W here just making my point). Its easy for a company to say "oh hey its the steel case ammo" and now they dont have to fix squat. One good example of this was Century Arms AK74. When they first came out a lot of people were having issues with key holing and Century stated that it was how the ammo functioned. Then they said it was bad ammo. Finally when enough people confronted them about it the truth came out that they were using 5.56 barrels instead of the proper 5.45 barrels. The 5.56 barrels were easy everyone makes em, getting correct 5.45 cost money.

As for steel case ammo. Try it, if it works great, if not, move on.

Yes, but be prepared to spend some of the money saved on ammo costs on purchasing new barrels. (At faster intervals than with brass cased.)

See my other post in this thread for documentation.

I read the post and the link. It is quite interesting but their tests went beyond real world conditions. There tests actually went beyond military usage. I have always said that these rifles are meant to be rebuilt, that they are not like the traditional rifles we have all shot over the years.

I have had my Sport for over a year and have shot over 2,000 rounds through it with no degradation of function. The first month I ran over 1000 rounds of steel cased ammo through it. I had a couple of failures but not enough to worry about and the savings from the ammo justified the usage. In the story they are talking about chrome lined barrels. There is a lot of empirical data to show that melonite surpasses chrome in every functional characteristic. Also the 5R rifling does not wear in the throat as traditional rifling does, due to the shape of the rifling not having square edges. I know people who do 3 gun competitions and they are not shooting their rifles till the barrel temp is 750deg F. When I was in the Marine Corps in combat we did not just blast away with our rifles to where rounds would cook off in the chamber. We also cleaned our rifles alot more often than every 2500 rounds.

The story was very interesting, I do like the stuff the Lucky Gunner labs are doing but their test had no relationship to real world shooting. Going 10,000 rounds without cleaning the lower is one example. I understand you had a rifle with a pierced primer that had problems. The thing is, piercing a primer shows a problem with the firing pin, not the ammo. Also one pierced primer is not going to fuse the primer to the bolt.

Thank you very much for the link, I found it very interesting but loading all my own ammo now and trying real hard to take care of a barrel that I dont know if I will be able to replace when it comes time ( and there will come a time) with the same 1:8 5R rifling. I still would occasionally shoot steel cased ammo, but I havent seen any for sale for almost a year.

Yea ive read that before. But even they say that a lot of that was caused by the fact that they got the barrels red hot and continued to keep em that way. I font have the means nor the time to shoot 10k continuous rounds of ammo. I buy whats available and cheap/on sale. The most i'll shoot in a weekend is 500 rounds and thats not every week and its not always steel case.To me barrel wear is not a big concern.

One stuck steel case in your DI AR could ruin your day or
your life! I use them in this rifle but its an AK type! Pete

All the time. No problems. Cheap and don't need to find or catch the brass on lazy days.

Steel will only run through my AK. No other weapon I own will ever see steel.

If paying a little more for ammo saves me from ruining my day or my rifle. I'm perfectly fine with that.
