Anyone heard of this happening
Well I went to pick up a M&P 10 today. I got home opened to look it over good and load up to shoot. I put the mag in and it wouldn't come out. I instantly got mad and thought I got a defective gun. After I calmed down I took another look and I smacked the side of the lower and the mag feel out. With the mag I could see the catch was moving freely if took a little punch and pushed the pin for mag release. About an hour later it hit me its a California gun with a bullet button. I'm in West Virginia. Anyone have any suggestions??? Contact s&w and tell them or play stupid and say its broke.

1. Take it back and get it replaced.
2. Just replace the BB with a regular mag release.

The bullet button is another California abomination, easily replaced with parts from Midway or Brownell. You will then have a properly functioning rifle and bragging rights to your buddies about the less fortunates in this country.

Neodymium barrel magnet. 1/4" dia.x 3/8" long. Type 54.
About $3. Then, you can take your rifle from America into Ca. and hunt with your friends out there.

I would take it back, or have Smith and Wesson make it right. the fellow that suggested fixing it yourself and keeping the parts so that you could take it to California if you ever wanted isn't a bad idea though.

Why would you want to go to California, much less hunt there?

And that justifies it all? You lived there all your life and you just can't leave. See I helped you out....... I know the feeling. Fortunately for me I was born a Texan. You are in my prayers.

Was this ordered or on the shelf? I'm trying to understand where this is anyone's mistake. If it was on the shelf, was it marked as a compliant model anywhere? If not, you may have a case. If so, you got what you got. Compliant models showed up in a lot of different states during the panic as shop owners ordered what every they could get their hands on.

Yeah this is probably the new reality. Either way if the customer is unhappy with the purchase, it has not been fired, and it's within the refund period lets hope the dealer will make it right.
But we all have to realize in this day and time it can save us all lots of hassles to first ask about compliance issues. Fortunately I did that with my Sport. I would guess as the Gun issue seems to be going our way on the national level at this time, those "Communist bloc" states will up the ante on their own efforts to restrict so called evil guns. Sad fact but it is sort of a buyer beware deal and I think it wise we all include the compliant check into our buying plan.

if it was on the shelf at a store such as cabbalas , well then they put the gun back on the shelf and go into the back and get a boxed one from the store room, a gun counter worker couldhave grabbed the wrong one... but in that case, cabelas is a store that all sales are final on guns.
