which gun to carry in the race?
near me a group is doing a 5k open carry race. proceeds will benefit victims of gun violence, showing that gun owners are absolutely against gun violence.
Group plans nation's first open carry 5k race | ksl.com
I'm going to register, but what gun to carry? should I strap the M&P15 on my back, strap the M&P 9 to my hip, or both?
either way, pretty cool event right?

Try running with the M&P15 on your back. That will help you make up your mind real quickly.

true! but I think the carry portion of the 5k is only a small portion of it, like half a mile or something. still probably not comfortable

Looking at the site...it's 3.1 miles (5k); I'd rethink your choice of carry.

I've recently picked up a new soft case for my M&P15 that has back pack straps. but that sorta defeats the idea of open carry, unless you look at the case as a sort of holster...
also the back pack doesn't give the same visual as an AR-15 strapped to the back. probably just go with a pistol.

this is what I was referring to, from the article:
"The race is split into two separate events: a half-mile armed carry race and a 3.1-mile race."

Personally, I'd go with a pistol just for the comfort factor alone.

I suggest the M&P 9. since its a pistol it would be easier and more comfortable to carry.

When I was involved in OC.....it was strictly frowned upon to OC a AR, AK, MP5 or any other rifle. Oc was meant for self defense and walking around with a rifle doesn't scream self defense.......but to each his own. I've run with an AR.......its not fun. Use a .22 AR if your gonna run it, nice and light. unless your using a 3 point and actually CARRYING the rifle.......your gonna get about 30 feet before that rifle jabs you in a way that will take you out of the race.
