Default M&P 15

I have the rifle length magpul handguard that I would like to put on my AR-15, what is the best way I can do this? I have a low profile gas block on its way. Can I just use a dremel and cut the front sight off so I can install the handguard or do I need the low profile gas block? Also what will hold the front of the handguard and keep it from moving?

I guess you could just cut the front sight off, I guess you are referring to an A2 front sight? You are better off, BY FAR, just waiting for your low profile to arrive and switch it out. Or (unless you just hate your front sight) just order the correct handguard from magpul that you can use with your current front sight.

Unless you have a rifle length barrel and as such, the front sight block is in the correct location, you have a problem. This assumes you rifle length handguard is not free floating.....is it?

The Magpul MOE handguard is not free floating so you will need something to hold it on. That means you need to find a front sight that will clamp on. It needs to be the right diameter and you'll need your retaining cap as well.

If you are simply looking for a longer rail, you are much better off shaving down your FSB and adding a free float rail.
