Default Commercial vs. mil spec extension tube.

Well I was going to swap out my standard butt-stock with a magpul ACS-l stock on my M&P after verifying with customer service and various others that mil spec meant mil spec. So of course my new mil spec stock doesn't fit.. Took off one my commercial magpuls and tried that. Fit like a champ.. But also found that the extension tube only had one hole... Damm Mass. Compliant rules.. Now I have to get another extension tube. And I know it will be a bitch to get the factory one off, since they stake them very well $@$&$$&$&$&?@&$))$&

Measure it. Mil-spec are 1.148" in diameter and commercial are 1.168" in diameter. I suggest that your problem may very well be the Mass. compliant stock.

Well I know it is a mass compliant stock, but those tricky S&W folks put an extension tube with only one hole. You can't even adjust the length and re-pin or screw the buttstock back. My sigs have standard extension tubes so you can fit the weapon an re.pin. so I guess I need to get another extension tube

I had the same problem with buying a mil spec stock. I ended up ordering a commercial tube stock and returning the Milspec. There are plenty of other companies that make buffer tubes. I think I looked on midway and found a bunch

just changed my NJ compliant MP sport which i think is the same as yours. I didn't need to replace the buffer tube. After removing the l lever and pin the stock slides right off. Then I redrilled the existing hole to 5/16. My new magpul acs slid right on and clicked in. Pinned it and done!

Redrilling one hole is no big deal, but wanting the option of different stock lengths, means drilling a few holes obviously, then there is the chance of mis alignment, etc pinned or not, it seems a better option to replace the buffer tube.

It's not that hard to use a punch to get a good center to drill the tube.
And, it's allominium, not SS. It drills like a champ.

Agreed. And with a drill press it's easier, yet.

I'd try drilling first and if something does goes wrong, you have options.

I hope just the compliant weapons have the commercial tubes, cuz I ordered an ACS-L too, in Mil-Spec for my non-compliant 15T.

Supposed to be here today so I'll soon know.

EDIT:

It came today @ noon. Slid right on to the tube and with the friction lock engaged, no movement, period.

Nice cheek weld, too.

If'n you are gonna hand drill it, just make sure to center punch the holes, use a good sharp bit (make a 'pilot' hole with a small bit then the larger bit will follow), use a little cutting oil and make sure to clamp your tube down, securely.

Or find a machine shop in your area and good luck!!

Outa curiosity, is the rear of your tube slightly slanted or square??

My Mil-Spec tube was square.

I have... First had to drill out the current hole to 15/16' actually harder to do than I thought without a drill press. 15/16 is just a wee bit tight and I am having trouble getting the stock to engage/disengage but will get the dremel out and fix that. Then drill additional holes, but will check with friend who has a drill press.
