Default M&P 15T | Longer Quad Rails Compatible with Delta Ring

Greetings Everyone,

I am new here on the forum and have been searching my tail off, to no avail, thus I am asking for help.

Question:
Is anyone aware of aftermarket extended rails (15" preferred) that can mount to the S&W Delta Ring?

Problem:
I have a fantastic M&P 15T with the 10" Quad Rail and am looking to change to a 15" Quad, M-Lok or Keymod rail in order to get a extended grip and room for more accessories.

I have a nice BCM 12" rail, but am unable to install it due to not being able to remove the delta ring which requires removing the taper pin in the low-pro gas block (yes I have tried every method and have the proper punches and braces), it will simply not budge, even when heated first and I don't want to pound on it any more as it's a great shooter and in mint condition. I even reached out to S&W and got very alarming "Customer Support".

I'd rather spend the money on an entire new upper for the rifle vs. taking it to a gunsmith, that way I'd at least have two different set-ups, but ideally I'd love just to simply slide in a new extended rail and get on with it.

Any ideas on quality aftermarket 15" rails that can clear the low-pro gas block and attach to the delta ring?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Best Regards,
E.T.

Welcome to the forum.

I presume that you have the M&P15T with the UTG Pro 10" Quad rail and the "Delta Ring" you referring to is actually the barrel nut. If you just want to replace the rail using the existing barrel nut it is possible you could use the UTG Pro 13" Quad Rail.

Leapers, Inc. - Hunting/Shooting, Sporting Goods and Security Gear

You will want to contact UTG pro to verify if the barrel nut is compatible before you purchase.

If you want to use the BCM you have, those pesky taper pins will have to come out.

1. Make sure you are pounding the in the correct direction as they are tapered.

2. Put some penetrating oil on the pins and let it set for a while.

You don't necessary have to pound harder. Sometimes a larger punch and a bigger heavier hammer with a few taps will do the trick.

Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it turns out with pics please.

Quad rails are pretty heavy, relatively. Getting a long one really adds weight, so choose wisely. Look at specs, and check weights.

And WELCOME!!!!!!!!

Totally agree. That 13 inch UTG Pro is nearly a pound at 15.6oz. I don't think that includes the barrel nut. An M-LOK Midwest industries combat rail at the same length weighs 9.9oz including the barrel nut. That is a huge difference and not to mention much more comfortable in the hand.

MI-CRM12.625<br> MI Combat Rail One Piece Free Float Handguard, M-LOK(TM) compatible

MI's 14 inch Ultra Light weight combat rail comes in at 8.4oz. Wow, but that light weight will cost ya. $$$

Do your research and like Racer X said "Choose Wisely"

Default Thanks Everyone!

Thank you all for the information and input.

The UTG seems to be the ticket, I reached out to them today and am just sending a few pics to confirm compatibility.

As far as removal of the M&P 15 Tactical's gas block, what a pain in the arse!

I have modest gunsmithing experience and I did all the research I could including making sure I was going in the right direction. I bought the vise blocks, proper punch set, soaked in penetrating oil, and even tried a torch but absolutely no movement. It became so frustrating that I decided to stop for fear of harming the barrel and gas system.

The 13" UTG Pro, should be ideal and eliminate my need to purchase a new upper (for now). I only wish they made a 15" model.

The extra weight is not an issue for me (as I grew up shooting Springfield and Enfield rifled muskets) and the extra girth of the quad rail helps me get a better C-clamp grip with my big paws.

Thanks again gents for the assistance.

Cheers!

Regards,
E.T.

You might want to check out the Fortis REV line of rails. They are freefloat and use the stock barrel nut. This means if the rail will go over your gas block you just cut off the Delta Ring and spring with a dremel and slide on the handguard. The REV series comes in many lengths and is very solid. I have this set-up on mt M&P 15 Sport II and I like it a lot.

He doesn't have a delta ring, or the standard barrel nut. The M&P 15T comes with a free float handguard from the factory.

I also have some gunsmithing experience as well as being an aviation technician with some decades of training and experience. I had a pinned front sight block I couldn't get the pins to budge (yes, I was going in the right direction) and took my upper to a competent full-time gunsmith. He had the pins out in two or three whacks. Cost: $20

It was well worth it to me. Take your upper to a gunsmith to get the pin driven out. You can handle the rest from there.

Dear Gentlemen and Scoundrels,

Thank you all again for the input and advice. I owe a huge shout-out to
Luger9x19.

I sourced a 13" Leapers, Inc. UTG Pro #MTU006 Quad-Rail that fit perfectly on the stock barrel nut (mistaken by myself as a delta ring, but equally as difficult to find compatible replacement free float rails to fit).

I was prepared to have my local Professional Gunsmith drive that taper pin however after calling S&W Support, I was informed that any removal would void the warranty. That's when I considered just buying a new upper to swap when desired in order to have the option of restoring the 15T to "Original" configuration.

I could not be more pleased with the MTU006 as it is basically the exact same rail that came on the weapon when I bought it new in 2009, just longer. Nothing against MLOK or Keymod rails (I built, or rather assembled a custom AR pistol with a shorty BCM Keymod). I really do prefer the heft and look of the quad Mil-1913s.

While she's quite the thick-b*tch, I shot just under 300 rounds this weekend and was able to get a much more comfortable and natural feeling c-clamp on the weapon, with less extension of the stock. Time will tell if this translates to better shot placement.

Again, I hate asking questions and am usually sucessful at finding solutions through my own research, but I was stumped.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to assist.

Cheers to you all!

Best Regards,
E.T.

*As requested, attached are some "greasy" pictures.
