New M&P 15 Sport not feeding correctly
Got my new M&P 15 sport today and it is having issues feeding both Winchester 5.56 and Independence 5.56 using 2 different new p mags. I'm new to the AR rifles but have had some handguns that acted up when they were new, just wondering if anyone has ever had this issue with the AR. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try gi mags, had customers complain about p mags in the sporter model, said they were getting double feeds and FTF after a couple of rounds. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I will see if I can find different mags. Would this cause the bolt to not close completely? It picks the round up ok, Its just not closing the bolt completely, happens about 9 to 10 times per 30 round mag.

Pmags are fine. If you have a problem......it's NOT a Pmag thing.
Disassemble the BCG. Pull the bolt, and be sure it is oiled inside. Be sure the rings are in good shape and oiled. Be sure the bolt and the cylinder where it sits is carbon free. (Many folks don't clean that out too well at first, and it causes headaches after a bit.) Make sure the glide surfaces are oiled. Not lubed, not greased, but oiled.
Bolt not closing; any drag marks on the mags? If not, the mags are not the issue. Is the chamber itself really clean in there? Need to get a light and look. If the chamber has carbon buildup, you can have trouble with rounds feeding in completely.
How do the rounds eject? Cleanly, or do they hang up?

The rounds eject fine. It was new in the box until I got it home today but I still oiled and checked it and it is very clean. there are no marks on the bolt or the mags.

The sport likes to be wet. Lube it up and retry. I've never had a problem with PMags in my sport.

That's good to hear.
It's likely that things are still very tight.
If you slowly close the bolt via the charging handle, with no round being fed and no magazine in the rifle, does the bolt close completely? If not, can you just push it with the thumb slot to close it?

Are you actually shooting the rifle, or just handling it?
What do you mean by it's not feeding correctly?
Pull the charging handle all the way to the rear and let it go. Nothing good happens by riding it forward.

They ought to make an aftermarket forward assist for instances like this.
I mean, what if this happened in a SHTF scenario?

You shouldn't be taking an unproven rifle that you just got and haven't shot and are unfamiliar with into SHTF scenarios.

Thanks to everyone for the information. Took it back to the dealer and it appears it is a defect.

You can push the bolt closed via the scallop in the bolt.
If a rifle does not want to go into battery........ the FA makes a mildly stuck rifle into a REALLY jammed up walking stick rather quickly.
FA is not your friend. A properly working rifle is your friend.

Sounds like you are riding the slide. Plus it needs some good break-in time.

Never had any trouble with mine (once broke in) and there IS the option of just buying one with a a FA already on the MSR.
IF and when SHTF,most "cowboys" aren't going to make it anyway. It won't be because they were missing the FA. ...it will more than likely be something stupid...

Not really. A small grain of sand or a burr in the chamber can be enough to hold the bolt out of battery. Or the bullet could be bent, dinged, or there could be some dirt on the bullet itself. Once the round is fired, the bullet is gone and the case ejected.
The bolt can be forced closed and fired and the round will eject and the next may hang OOB again. A quick slap on the FA will allow the gun to be fired.
Sometimes after a few rounds the object causing the OOB will dislodge itself and the gun can go back to full auto, or semi-auto in the civilian world.
It has happened to me before. It could happen again. And when you are in a bad situation, taking down a gun and cleaning it may not be an option.

Yup, something like an empty chamber or forgetting to flip the safety.

Did it "look" clean or did you ACTUALLY clean it by hand like the manual says ?. You might not have got all the storage lube off and out of everything thing. THAT alone causes most of the new problems with many "new" first time owners.
