Loose Sport stock
Now that I have ran several hundred rounds through my sport, I have found my first issue with it...Not really an issue but more of an annoyance. The stock is loose and has quite a bit of play in it. I know they have a mil spec buffer tube, and the mil spec is smaller than a commercial tube, so I am wandering if these stocks that Smith is using are commercial?
The clearance difference between the mil spec and commercial would be about right for the amount of play I am seeing in the stock.
I guess the only fix for it is to replace it?
What do you all recommend for a good budget replacement?

A common complaint on Mil-Spec and Commercial-Spec Rifles. They are just that way with a basic collapsible stock. I find that it doesn't affect function but is annoying.
I have an M&P 15T and an M&P 15-22 and they were both loose and shaky with the basic stock supplied by S&W with the weapon which is Mil-Spec by the way. Fortunately, the solution is simple, albeit not cheap.
I use MagPul CTR stocks on mine. It is similar to the basic stock but has a second lever mounted on the front of the stock that actuates a "clamp" that takes the lost motion out of the fit.
The CTR works for me and MagPul has several other "clamp" models that have different options.

Magpul CTR stock from http://ottofirearms.com. Great service, $5 shipping and cheap price. You can't go wrong.

My M&P 15 OR stock rattles too.
This is where the above link took me:
Thank you for your support!
As of July 2013, I'll be shutting down Otto Firearms as I take steps to join the United States NAVY. I wanted to thank everyone who has already called expressing their best wishes, I'm pretty damn excited about it to be honest.
Thank you very much for your support of Otto Firearms during the last year. It means a lot to me and my family.
Regards,
James Otto

CIDI- Thanks for the update! I ordered from them a couple of months ago and got great service and pricing. I wish him the best but now I have to look around somewhere else to order.

The OE stock on my new 'T' rattled also.
I remedied it by adding a Mil-Spec sized Magpul ACS-L with the previously mentioned 'friction lock' which eliminates any and all wiggles, rattles, movement of the stock, period.
Nice cheek weld included.

Get yourself a piece of sticky backed felt from the local ChinaMart (the fuzzy side of stick on Velcro may work also) and cut a strip about 3/8' wide and 2 1/2" long. Remove your stock from the tube and place the felt strip starting at the back edge on top of the tube running forward. Replace the stock on the tube. Yes, it will initially be very tight but it will loosen a little over time. This will take virtually all the play out of the assembly. Trim the strip so that it doesn't show with the stock pushed on to the first detent.

Btw Otto Firearms is still selling his remaining inventory. Try emailing him. He's still pretty active on SigForum from what I see.

I've been thinking about doing this to my Sport. Do you know if the Sport has the Mil-spec tube or the commercial size tube?

Could you put that in the stock instead?

I don't see why not. The fuzz won't show even if it's on the tube. I just didn't have the stock on all the way in the picture.

Good idea. Rattle is annoying on a rifle.

I plan on building one here soon and I will probably use my old sport stock on it to start. Will have to try the velcro trick.
I got the CTR this morning slapped it on and it is sweet.
