Law enforcement ar-15
I was in the gun shop yesterday and was looking at a S&W
M&P ar-15. The guy in the shop told me it was made only for LE. I have looked at the web site and S&W don't have the gun on their site. it is 15t-le and it looks to have troy front and rear sights and a troy quad rail. Is 1,250.00 a good price?

If the only difference in the LE is the Troy sights (compared to the Magpul on the regular T), then I would say $1250 is a bit high. The regular T already has the Troy quad rail, so are the sights the only difference?
You can get a regular 15T on Gunbroker for $999 all day long.

The troy battle sights are steel and a good $200+ and are a significant upgrade from the MBUS sights of the T which are polymer. Might not matter to you, though.
You should also find out barrel is used on the LE model. Is it the 1/8" 5R? Melonite, Chrome, or other in the bore? Those things will factor in as well.

The current version of the 15T does not have a Troy quad rail. It appears to be a UTG pro that is rebranded by S&W.
The old version of the 15T came with Troy sights, Troy rail, and 1:9 chrome lined barrel. Is this really a newly produced rifle, or new "old stock"?
In the past, the rifles for civilian sales and LE sales were the same, only LE received better pricing, and an additional magazine. However, if you go to the S&W LE page, they have an ad running for the 15T and say it comes with Troy sights and rail, and that features vary per sku, so maybe S&W is going to start differentiating between the two lines.

My 15T is a few years old and has Troy Sights and Troy Rail. The Troy Part Number is marked on the bottom of the rail near the receiver and marked S&W M&P onthe top rail. The Sights are marked with Troy on their front near the rail under the S&W Mark. Mine also is a 1:9 Chrome Lined Barrel.
If it ain't marked, chances are it ain't a Troy. With that said there are plenty of other good rails on the market and the price spread is pretty huge. Kinda like airline tickets.

You are the only one that can decide if it is worth it or not. The heart of the rifle, the BCG, is the same on both. The pros of the new T is that it has the Melonite 1/8 5R barrel, and lower cost. The pros of the old style T (or LE now?) is the Troy hardware. However, there is an article floating around on the net that was a drop test to see how the different BUIS would hold up...if I remember correctly, the polymer Magpuls faired better than the metal fold ups, as the metal ones bent on impact.
Another difference in the two is that the new T has the integral trigger guard that is enlarged for shooting with gloves. The old T has the trigger guard that can be opened, or even changed. I like the integral, as I would put an enlarged guard on it any way and I don't have to worry about breaking the ears where the pins go for the replaceable type.
If it were me, I would go with the new T (Magpul one), and take the extra money that I would have paid for the T-LE and put it towards an optic. That extra $250 puts you over halfway for an Aimpoint Pro.
