Default 10 Round PMAGS

I received two of the 10 Round PMAGS with dust covers yesterday from Midway.

These look like just the ticket for shooting off the bench and varmint hunting in the field. Not first choice if you expect to meet Al Quida on your stroll through the woods but they sure look nice and feel light on the rifle.

Midway? didnt know they were in stock. Most everyone has been out of stock on these for some time.

Those of us in California have no choice , but to purchase these.

Ive used them before, and they do feel great!

Hopefully you express your choice at the polls, and talk to everyone you know about how ignorant these gun laws are....

Our local AR store, Curt's Discount Shooters Supplies, in Gladstone, Oregon just got lots of PMags. The 10s and 20s are Gen2, plus Curt's has 30s windowed and non-windowed in Gen2.

The Gen3s are all 30-round and non-windowed.

I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven a few weeks ago, when I walked into Curt's and found CASES of 30-round magazines ... both Gen2 and Gen3. Prices were $12.95 to $15.00

Now, two weeks later, you have a nice choice.

Hopefully, the shortage of mags is easing. Now, it would be nice to have plentiful ammo and at a decent price.

Yeah, like you, I love the feel of my carbine with 20s.

God Bless,

Steve

Shorty mags are the new go to mag now days. Many people are discovering the versatility of these over the 30rd mags.

I've actually traded a few of my 30rd mags for some of these 10rd mags. I have enough 30's and no quit enough 10's.

Midway seems to be out of them again so if anyone knows of an online source I would appreciate a heads up.

I've been eyeing the 20 rounders, anyone got a chance to use these? I can't tell if they are an odd compromise and might just feel lacking, but too long to be useful on a bench rest.

20 rounders are great, not too long for bench or prone shooting. And I like that ammo also comes in boxes of 20. keep in mind The pistol grip of the AR sticks out further than the 20 as well as the 10 rounders, 20 is not to many.

See pics of 10, 20, and the standard 30 round mags for comparison (mouse over image for larger view). 10 looks odd to me, but it does leave more room to eject the mag and it isn't a beauty contest.

I like the 20's the best. Monday I was in Gander and they had racks of mags. Not sure which brand because they didn't have any markings on the bags and didn't have my reading glasses to see the fine print. Not really in the market for mags but I did pick up some 5.56 ammo. They had two shelves full of them for 11.99(20 rds). Relatively speaking I can live with that for now. I also noticed 4 different brands of AR's for the first time in a long time. S&W, DPMS, Bushmaster, and and can't remember the other. This seems to be really good news because I have always avoided Gander for the most part, even for fishing gear. Hope this trend continues.

Standard FMC ammo priced over .45 a round can sit on the shelf as far as I am concerned. I guess we are to blame for causing the current shortage but I will bet the future will see a lot more shooters with a back up supply of ammo on the shelf to avoid such "shortages". I decided this course many years ago. Back to the original thread, I missed the Midway 10 round offering as it seems things are often gone by the time of notification. Brownells had 20 round Pmags the other day and I gobbled up a few. For bench shooting the 10 rounders cannot be beat and 20 round just seem to work a lot better for me than 30's in other applications. Besides I am too damn old to worry about a call from Uncle Sam and a need to bring 30's.

I just ordered some from Joe Bob Outfitters this morning and they shipped this afternoon:

MAGPUL M3 PMAG 10rd-MAG 559

The 10 rd. mags fit perfectly in these bandoleers. They are not the USGI style, apparently they are British, 5 pocket, nylon, that secure with snaps on the pockets:

I'll try and take a pic of mine and post it here.

10rd shorty mags work great in the 15/22 also.

10rd mags are a must have in the collection. I find myself using the 10's more than i use anything else.

Just being curious, so please don't take this the wrong way.

I would like know your reasons why 10 and 20 round pmags are preferred. Thanks.

For me, they are just preferred for certain situations. If you are shooting from a bench rest, 30 round mags are often too long. I don't do a lot of prone shooting, but again 30 round mags are too long for that. Sometimes if you are just out plinking or target shooting, 10 or 20 rounds at a time is sufficient and can be preferred because it weighs less. If you are hiking through thick underbrush doing hunting or whatever, a 30 round mag sticks out further and can get caught on things.

30 round mags are preferred in any kind of combat situation because more rounds between reloads. For that same reason, sometimes preferred when plinking or target shooting (especially at a range) when you don't want to waste time reloading.

The 10 or 20 rounders is not what I would grab in a SHTF situation.

I like them because they don't project below the grip. Works well for prone or bench shooting.

Additionally they are light weight when loaded, lets you hang on a additional flashlight, can opener or other doo-hicky without getting too heavy.

For taking on terrorists down by the river or doing mag dumps, you can always stick in a 30 round mag or a 100 round double drum.

Thanks for all the information, this has been very helpful. I got a chance to get together with my bro and his friends and tried out over a dozen different rifles, shotguns, and handguns, and contracted BRD. I think it all began earlier this year when I grabbed a 15-22 on a whim, but that 6 hours at the range got me a full blown case.

I've been stocking up on 30 round mags and ammo and gonna pick up a M&P 15 MOE this weekend, but now I might just grab some 20 rounders from SGammo as they got them back in stock.

20 Round P-Mag Gen 3 Magazine for AR-15 by Magpul - MAG560-BLK | SGAmmo.com

Thanks and I fear this may be the start of a very bad outbreak.

I received a couple Gen 3 Pmags from Midway a few weeks back I finally tried them out at the range the other day. They worked without issue... I have been using 20 rnd PMags blocked to 5 and 10 rounds which I was happy with, but wanted something totally low profile, as in a legal sense.
