Default Nikon P-223 scope, 3x32mm

I've been an avid pistol shooter for years but just recently purchased an M&P Sport. I'm used to shooting at 50ft with a pistol but now I find that my vision isn't that great beyond 35 yards or so. At least not for target shooting. I've decided on a low magnification scope for shooting out to a maximum of about 100 yards. I live and shoot in the woods and there are very few open spaces that would ever go over that range. In my search I found the Nikon P-223 in a fixed 3 power magnification that looks just exactly like what I'm wanting. Price is pretty good also. I tried to do a search here but couldn't really find anything specific to that scope. I know the inclination is to tell me to spend more and get more but that's really not what I want to do. is anyone familiar with this scope. What is your opinion. Also, how much trouble is that front sight going to cause me.

I have this scope on 2 of my rifles. I like it a lot. The zero is actually good for 200 yards and there are 2 hash marks that Nikon says are good for 400 and 600 yards. I have them mounted on P series Nikon mounts as well. The price is good and the front sight was not a problem with mine. The glass is very clear and the price is right. The scope can be bought at your local WM for $149. This scope will let you shoot to 100 yards.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad your satisfied with yours. I was afraid I'd get a bunch of bad feedback.

I have it on my sport with the P series mounts.

Have not shot it yet but from what I see I think it will be excellent.

I am also interested in getting this scope for my M&P Sport. Wondering if this a good choice for close range like between 50-100 yards

I have easily over 1000 rounds under this scope and love it. Only problem is, so does my son. He has now claimed it as his for our carbine matches. The 3X and 32 mm obj. provide a wide field of view and shooting at targets as close as 25 yards is not a problem. I also have Nikon's P-Series 2 piece mounts holding the scope in place. I sighted this scope in for .5 inch high at 100 yards which put it about .5 in low at 200 yards where we always seem to have at least 20 targets at local carbine match. Best of both worlds in my book at for a great price. Now I just need to find one for myself! By the way, I do do some freelance work for Nikon Sport Optics, but believe me, if this scope didn't do what it was supposed to I'd be the first to tell you. Here's a pic of my son getting ready to engage targets at one of our matches.

bman940,
this is all good to hear. In the pics it looks like you have the scope mounted pretty far forward. This probably makes it easy to operate the charging handle but is the long eye relief a problem?

Default Nikon P-223 3X Carbine scope

The eye relief is about 3.5 inches so lot of room to get comfortable. The adjustable stock makes it work for who ever is pulling the trigger. I never like to see a scope on one of my guns mounted behind the charging handle. The P-Series mounts really give you a lot of flexibility in how and where you want to mount the scope.

I can honestly say, there is not one person who I have let try out this scope who hasn't liked it. I would guess at each match I have 7-8 folks come up and want to check out this scope. I always let them fling a few rounds down range to see what they think.

Here's a more up close and personal pic of a friend trying out my rifle. You can see how this scope gets used a lot!

Default P-223 Scope

I have had one since they first came out.
At the time I bought mine you got the mount free with the scope at $149.00
So it was an easy decision, I really like it on my AR, I have bolt guns for longer range work, I also have a Dolled up fancy Ruger ranch rifle with a glass bedded stock and a 24" Bull match barrel that outshoots my AR at least.
I feel very well covered for 223, the Ranch has a Nikon 4x12 and my 223 bolt has a 5.5x16 older Nikon Monarch so you can see I am a huge Nikon fan, they are all I usually buy, my Leupolds which I like also come only on used rifles I buy as I think they are over priced, but very good glass.

The scope mounts are turned around backwards. It looks sort of funny.

JC, I have shot my 10/22 at Steel crows/prairie dogs at 200 yards. In fact Nikon put on a shoot that had over 200 folks shooting these 200 yard targets with 22LR. The key was Spot On and the BDC reticle. We were using Ruger 10/22's, one topped with Nikon's PROSTAFF 3-9 Rimfire scope and the other with Nikon's PROSTAFF EFR 3-9. From the ballistic data we received from Spot On we held at the top of the bottom post and it was ping ping ping! Pretty cool and more then one person walked away saying one of those scopes were going on their 10/22.

Little, That's the great thing about the Nikon P-Series 2 piece AR Mounts, they can be used how ever you want to use them. With this compact
P-223 3X Carbine scope you need that kind of flexibility.

Here's a pic of Nikon's PROSTAFF 3-9 Rimfore BDC 150.

Yep mounts can go either way according to Nikon. I've tried it both ways and could set the eye relief where I wanted it.

I like the Nikon scopes. I have 2 P223 3x's, 3 P223 3x9's, M223 1x4Point Blank, 2 Prostaff Rimfire 3x9's, P22 , 2 3x9 Prostaff, 3x9 Buckmaster and a 5.5x16 Monarch. I guess you could say I like their products since I have 13 of their scopes! All of the rimfire and 223 scopes are mounted on P series or M series mounts as well.

The only complaint that I have about Nikon is this. They do not offer any scopes with a gloss finish. I just bought 2 leupold scopes for my Browning T-Bolts because they offered them with a gloss finish. I really like the Nikon rimfire scopes with the BDC reticles. Nikon there is a market out there for a gloss scope. I hope someone from Nikon hears me about this. Bart this is directed at you. Help me out here.

It sounds as though (at least so far) everyone who owns one likes it. that's good to hear. And the front sight is not a problem?

I have the Nikon P-223 too but I didn't go for the P-223 mounts. I just don't like the looks of it, that's just me. I mounted it on 1/2" riser, used 1" high rings so I can still use my MBUS rear & A2 front sights when and if the scope craps out. Before I got the riser, the front A2 sights is somewhat noticeable thru the scope but after a while it bothers me so I went and spent another $20 on the riser. The 1.5" overall height of the scope gives me a comfortable eye relief so I'm happy with it. I downloaded the free apps called Strelok Ballistic Calculator but I haven't tried it yet cause I'm still trying to learn how to use it. I've read good reviews about it so I went and downloaded it, I'll post a follow up about it later.

Sorry no pictures but I just don't like posting my guns on the mighty web of the internet...again, it's just me.

Send some down range, be safe and have fun.

Good Info. Now let me ask you another question. I will be ordering the Nikon P223 3 X 32 scope and the P-Series 2 piece mount to go with it. Will I have enough clearence to leave my rear Magpul site folded down on my M&P15 Sport? Thanks.

I took mine off but I remember checking it and yes it does work with the P series mounts installed like bman940 has them in his sons picture.

The front sight is blurred enough at 3x that you will not notice it after using the scope a couple of times. I've got a 1.5x5 on one of my rifles and find that the sight tower does not interfere even at the lowest power.

Well I ended up buying the 3x 32mm. I happened to be in my local Walmart and they had the scope and bases which I paid a total of $180 for. Now to get out and shoot with it.
