AR 15 OPTICS READY!, how to add front sling mount

Just brought it home, looks like a 10-32 machine screw boss on bottom of gas block, don't see any kit to mount other than rail type, what gives?

No hole in the bottom of the gas block for a Quick Release swivel? Should be a larger hole right next to the one you described.

OH, is THAT what that is!

Any recommendations?, hard to tell in some of the photos if it is right for the optics only; this is my first AR at 61 years old!

Do a search on "quick detach sling swivel" on sites like Amazon, Midway, or Brownell's, and you'll find a few styles and a huge range in price.

I see no reason to pay more than about $12 for these simple devices. As long as they will fit the sling you want, and are strong enough. Typically they have a 1" or 1.25" loop. You just want the plain plug-in unit, without any of the extra attachment parts.

Strangely, the only local shop near me to have one was Dick's Sporting Goods. They are quite literally THE LAST store I check when I want something "now" due to their idiocy over MSRs.

Here's a pic of the block with a cheap fixed front sight and QD swivel.

One word of advice...When you buy one and install it, give it a few good hard yanks to make sure it is fully engaged. Some of them have release buttons that are flush or below flush so you don't release the swivel by accident. I have Midwest Industries swivels on my guns and so far so good.

Some of the kind folks here, led me down the right path, when I didn't have a clue what fit in the large hole.

A quick order, and I have my sling on now.

Johnk, what sling did you end up with?

JohnK 09-21-2013 09:57 AM

anoble, think I ordered it from Midway. Don't remember the bRAND.
