Default Newbie Ammo Question

Thanks in advance.

5.56 55 grain versus 5.56 62 grain green tip.

16' barrel, 1 in 9 twists.

1) Most accurate, tightest group?

2) Most effective combat round?

3) Most effective on small game?

55gr for all three. Do a Google search for Martin Fackler wound ballistics.

I'd think the heavier bullets would fare better in 1:7 & maybe 1:8 barrels but not 1:9.

1/9 barrel will handle the 62gr just fine.
From xm855 ammo (green tip) expect 2-3MOA from the ammo. It's the tip, not the bullet itself or the barrel. You will find that regular 55 and 62gr. hunting ammo will have better accuracy and better groups.

For plinking, the steel will work just fine.

For defense, in home I would rather use an expanding hunting round vs a FMJ round. For EOTWAWKNI........... any ammo you can find will be the one to use.
