Sport upgrades
Im looking to buy a m&p sport as a basic entry level rifle. Eventually i will want to do some upgrades to it, for function, and to learn more about the rifle. Where should i start? New BCG? Trigger?

In this order:
1. buy the rifle
2. clean/lube rifle
3. shoot it
repeat step 3 a lot and you'll have your answer. You will know exactly what you want to do to your rifle to make it shoot better (more accurate, comfortable, ergonomic, etc) for you. Can't know that without following the steps.
Good luck and happy shooting!

Ditto. What works for me may not work for you. The only way to know what upgrades you'll want/like is to spend some time with the rifle so you can decide what you want to change.

Buy some ammo and you're set for a while.
You possibly could like the out of the box set up.
You could build the most over the top weapon on the forum, but without ammo, it's a club.

Sport upgrades
As others have stated, go shoot it a few times in it's stock configuration to get a feel for it. You'll then be able to better choose accessories that work best for you. I'm a 15-Sport owner that spent too much $$$ discovering my final preferences because I was impatient and always looking for less expensive parts that are "just as good as". Trust me. Go shoot it. Think hard about what accessory will truly fit your use and buy that part.
That being said, the one single upgrade that will affect your interface with the rifle is a good trigger. Almost everything else you'll affix to your rifle is just icing on the cake,

You're going to get pretty much a consensus on recommending that you shoot the Sport and get to know it. The Sport is an extremely capable AR. It comes with a batch tested HP/MP BCG so no reason at all to swap that out. The M&P's also has one of the best feeling mil-spec triggers I've ever fired. The only thing I have that comes close in an ALG ACT. So, if you get one that's anything like most of ours, you don't need to swap that either. Buy mags, buy ammo, go shoot and enjoy a solid rifle. Can't learn anything from it if you go swapping things out before you've learned.

Count me in with the shoot it crowd. I have a Sport that is still basically stock. I have added a red dot sight, and changed the rear sight. Oh, and added a saddle attachment type thing to my stock that has storage tubes and gives more area for a cheek weld.
I even have a few parts that I have purchased along the way that haven't made it onto the rifle. They will probably find their way onto my .22lr AR at some point in time.

Another one for go shoot it first. i dislike the factory butt stock and grip, so those are always the first to go for me. I tend to lean more and more towards magpul furniture nowadays because of weight, ergonomics, color and value. I've shot 3 different m&p 15s(mm,sport,or)and all had great triggers.the trigger on my moe mid is fantastic. i wouldn't worry about changing the bolt unless it breaks or your past 5000rds(personal preference). Even after 5000 I keep shooting it,I just inspect it more carefully and often. Everyone on here has a parts bin,so will you.
