Saw this as well this morning. Also Midway has a sale on CMC Triggers for $149. Cheapest I've seen anywhere!

Well this sucks...I just bought from kygunco.com for $593.99 shipped but I had to mail them a check. At grabagun I could have just paid instantly with CC and been done!

Yep, Bud's PD had them and I just grabbed one for $555 shipped.
What's with the goofy rear sight they put on the Sport? Plastic? Feels like I'm going to break it.
And the barrel isn't the M4 type. It will take some getting used to.
I have to read the OM and clean it tonight..

Well, the "goofy rear sight" is a Magpul MBUS. Maybe you have heard of Magpul? They also make that goofy plastic magazine. I did change mine out too though. I don't like them, but not because they are polymer. My son loves them on his 15-22.
As for the barrel profile, do you have a M203 that you were planning to mount on the Sport?

I'll put the M203 on one of my other ARs....
Have you seen what those cost?
And the price of ammo for them?
ETA:
The M203 was my favorite weapon by far! I loved it more than the LAW. I qualified expert in both, but the M203 is my baby....

The Army got all the fun toys. I was one of the guys responsible for pulling our weapons from the armory if our mobility team deployed. So I would go sign out a pallet of M16s, and a S&W .38 revolver. The rifles remained locked up on the pallet, and I played guard while armed with the revolver. Never understood why I couldn't just sling a rifle...

I am so on the fence here. I have wanted to pick up one of these for a year now. A little disappointed S&W changed out the barrel to a 1:9 but prices are differently at the right point.

I got one for $639 and the second one for $598. ARs are not going to get any cheaper. I'd say you got a good score. Congrats!
I've done allot of research on ARs for my winter project. The absolute cheapest AR you can build will cost $515, (if you don't have a buddy giving you some freebees). That is no melonite, chrome, stainless barrel (chromoly), no warranty, and no resale value. However, you will have the fancy dust cover if you plan on rolling in the mud.
$80 stripped receiver
$80 LPK
$90 BCG & charging handle
$200 upper (16" carbine, all others are more $)
$15 magazine
$50 rear sight (Magpul flip up, UTG carry handle only $40)

Ordered one myself on Saturday from Grabagun for $579, but I paid 8.25% state tax. Prefer to patronize Texas stores.
Will pick it up at GT in Austin whenever it comes in next week.
It's my 1st AR - replaces the 30 year old Mini-14 I gifted to my son for Christmas.
Now to find at least a half dozen Pmags, a sling, and a case of range ammo.

Congrats to you sir! The Mini-14 is one heck of a nice rifle and your son is lucky to have inherited it from you. I'm sure you'll enjoy you 15-Sport and the AR platform.

Don't over think the 1:8 5R v.s. the 1:9 barrel too much. The discussions you see about it (many I've participated in) are just being picky. To be honest, it surprised the heck out of me that S&W ever installed that barrel on the 15-Sport.
Discussing the minute technical merit between the two v.s. results in the field are different things. Am I the super-duper marksman that can clearly demonstrate the difference between the 1:8 5R and a 1:9 barrel? Nope. I own both twist rates. Given my skill level, I can't show any appreciable difference between the two.

Yep, spec sheet bragging rights. The 1:8, 5R barrel was a great feature, but the Sport is pricing much lower on average than it was when I bought mine. If you are shooting 55 or 62 gr that is on sale from Walmart, probably won't be able to tell any difference.

I'm curious, I've never purchased on-line. My LGS charges $10 to transfer. Do I have to pay sales tax at my LGS or do I pay the seller and they just ship to my LGS for paperwork and no sales tax?

When I did it, there was no sales tax on the rifle. I paid the seller and he shipped to my FFL. Paid the FFL the transfer fee.

Being a Texas resident and buying online from a Texas dealer, I paid the Texas sales tax (8%) & shipping at the time of ordering.
Will pay my FFL their $25 fee when I pick it up.
Incidentally, I placed the order at Grabagun (in Coppell - near Dallas) Saturday afternoon. They sent the package to the pickup place at 5pm last night (Monday), it was at the Irving FedEx center an hour later, left Irving on a truck at 11:20pm, arrived in Austin this morning (Tuesday) at 4:54am - the driver must've stopped for a long breakfast in Hillsboro - and left the Austin FedEx center on a truck at 5:01am for delivery in north Austin.
Pretty prompt service.
Now we'll see how long it takes to get to the FFL dealer, since Austin just got freezing precipitation overnight - there is ice all over the driveways & streets in my neighborhood - then how long it takes for said FFL dealer takes to check it in and notify me for pick up.

I don't know how it works in other states, but here in Illinois sales tax on out of state purchases still applies. The out of state vendor is not required to collect or report Illinois sales tax. The Illinois resident is obligated to report all out of state transactions to the Illinois Department of Revenue on their yearly taxes.
Like that ever happens...

I get that question on my state taxes as well here in Indiana.
I'm curious how much is actually reported.
