Just got a M/P Sport and now the hunt for optics begins. I can not afford an EOtech,Trijicon etc. My rifle only cost 600.00. Im new as stated so to put a 500.00+ optic on it at this point seems kind of like overkill. I do need an optic[s] and I was wanting to go with a Reddot/Holo type sight. Im thinking in the 100.00-150.00 range to start with is the way to go. I've researched until I'm seeing double and would really like some advice on this next purchase. First, congrats on your new 15-Sport and welcome aboard! I've experimented with different red dots from the $35 - $200 range. Within your set budget of $100 - $150, I highly recommend a Primary Arms dot.

They offer good red-dot sights that mimic the exterior form factor of the premium brands. A Primary Arms M3 clone red dot sight on a cantilever mount worked well on my 15-Sport and never gave me any issues. There are other individuals on this forum who have had great results with Primary Arms red dot sights, particularly the Primary Arms Micro Dot.

Another vote for Primary Arms. I have 2 micro red dots from there. One on an Ar and the other on shotgun. Both have worked great.

A Bushnell TRS-25 can also be had for less than $100, and is another popular option.

First AR, need some guidance

One thing worth considering. The optic will not be permanently attached to your rifle. The question is, are you a fanatic and do you Really, really love guns? If so, forget price you'll probably buy a more expensive rifle soon and you can move this to your big money gun later. If you know you'll never buy another, find one that reviews well, one rated for a .223 or bigger, not a .22lr. You can buy them cheaply but many are worth what they cost. The $150 price range is a good one. Check out the Vortex. I'm even thinking about putting one on my 15-22. I have and XPS 2-0 and really like it. I wish I would have purchase the 3 dot version though. 2-3?

One word of advice...or warning depending on viewpoint... A 15-Sport starts out only costing whatever you paid the LGS for it, but that can change over the years.



There is a 15-Sport under all those accessories and parts. The EoTech wasn't overkill in the end.

That EoTech isn't overkill on a bone stock Sport! I have a couple of rifles where the glass cost as much or more than the rifle itself. My Sport is not one, due to it being more of a fun gun for me. But my deer rifle, you bet... the gun was the cheaper part.

+1 on the Bushnell trs-25.

Remember, the bitterness of low quality remains long after the elation of low price wears off. The adage of "you get what you pay for" is especially poignant when talking about optics.

You may feel that your $600 gun isn't much, but it can shoot better than you think. It is common, and usually worth it, to spend more on the optics than the gun.

If you have no sights, get a set of iron sights to get you by for now. Then spend some time researching a good optic. You won't be sorry.

The Primary Arms optics are good. I'd also recommend that you look into the Vortex Optics. I am very happy with my Strikefire, and see that they have just come out with the Strikefire II:

Plus one for Primary Arms. Just added their 30mm red dot and a mount to my Sport, $90 to my door.

Saving for one of the higher end optics is good advice as well. The Eotech 512 can be had for around $425, and will last many, many years.

I've found that the Sightmark Ultra Shot Sight QD (SM14000) is quite adequate as a budget sight out to about 50-yards. Usually around $90 when on sale at Dunham's Sports. (Which is frequently.)

It also has the advantage of a quick-detach mount, and co-witnesses with my "iron" sights.

I but a Bushnell TRS-32 on my sport I like it quite a bit. I got it at MidwayUSA on clearance sale awhile ago for $106.

I've got a trs 25 on my mp 15 22.Works good, Seems like it needs adjustment every time I take it to the range. But good for money. Just ordered a NC star mark 3 gen 2, looks like good scope for money. Put the trs 25 on Ruger mark 3 Hunter that's a nice set up with my just mirror polished barrel and hand frame, 15 hours of work, total disasem.of gun. Wanted something better then a red dot to shoot further with the 15 22. I guess I'll see what its like when it comes, it has a quick release mount hope their okay. Any body know about this scope?

I recently mounted a Nikon P223 scope on my AR15. Works well if your looking for that kinda optic.
