Sport Charging Handle - Adding Latch or Changing Handle
As a new Sport owner, one of the things I'd like to modify is the charging handle's small latch end. My larger fingers slip a little when grasping it. Used my friend's AR with a large latch attachment and it was much easier to use. Any recommendations on the pros and cons of adding a latch to the charging handle I have or replacing the handle with one with an extended latch? Recommendations on specific brands as well would be appreciated. Thanks.

I added a Badger Ordnance oversized latch to my Daniel Defense that has worked out quite well. I bought just the latch: it was easy to remove the factory part and install the new one. Less than $20 from Brownells.

Go to Bravo Co and check their 'Gunfighter' series charging handle. I replaced the stock with their medium (Mod4).
The stock handle is prone to bend under stress and the Bravo Co handle is stronger and it also gives me a back up should the need a raise.

BCM Mod 4 handle as batmann said. I have heard great things about the Raptor too if you want an ambi.

If you are of a mind to run the rifle hard with mag drills etc. the BCM or Rainier handles will take the punishment. Normal operation will find a Badger (different lengths) or other extended handle on your current unit will work just fine, it's all a matter of money.

+1 for the Bravo gunfighter Mod4. It's not just an extended latch, it's redesigned to take the stress off of the pin and put it into the handle. The Mod3 has an even bigger latch if that's what you're looking for.

Are both of these replacement charging handles just a matter of take out the stock handle and drop in the replacement, or is some modification required?

Harry,
They are both drop in replacements, just pull the original and replace with one of these. I just bought my sport yesterday but asked some questions at the gun shop about upgrades and this was one of the topics I asked about because I got chubby fingers. The owner showed me his Sport which has a BCM. and I bought the BCM Mod4. Works much better for me and doesn't feel as flimsy as the stock piece.

The nice thang about the "Raptor" is that there is no oversized "trip lever" sticking out of the charging handle to snag on your gear.
If the lever is snagged while the weapon is charged the charging handle deploys.
Pull on either 'ear' w/the Raptor to charge your weapon.
