Unexpectedly Bought an M&P 15 Sport
I've never owned a rifle before. I have a 12ga and a few handguns, but never had a rifle. I was in the gun store a few days ago and saw an M&P 15 Sport and suddenly I realized I had to have one. They were on sale until the end of August, so I bought one.
Here in California, owning an AR rifle is full of all kinds of fun regulations, such as a bullet button and ten round magazines. I got a bullet button ring for quick mag changes, and I ordered some 10/20 magazines to replace the goofy looking ten rounder. The 10/20 magazines are 20-round Magpuls that have been modified with epoxy and plastic blocks to only accept ten rounds.
If you were thinking of moving to California, may this serve as a warning to you.
I have a lot to learn about ARs now, this forum should be a great resource.

Unexpectedly Bought an M&P 15 Sport
Welcome aboard! My condolences on your having to put up with Commiefornia firearms laws. Hold onto that 10-rounder. They're great for zeroing your irons off a bench. The 15-Sport was my first semi-auto, center fire rifle too. It's a great rifle and one that I will not let go.
AR-15's are the equivalent of adult Lego's for men. Overall, they're not complicated but there are some nuances to the rifle. Some of those nuances we'll debate to no end. If you have any questions, ask. I'm one of the nut-jobs that's changed everything on a 15-Sport except for the upper receiver, buffer tube, barrel, and muzzle device. I'm willing to offer my opinion on different mods and parts. I've tried several of them.
I'm also a firearms cleaning nut. I've tried different AR-15 cleaning tools.
New to AR's? Here are some tools I use to clean.
Congrats again!

Congrats! S&W makes a quality carbine in the Sport at a very reasonable price. I've had mine for almost a year and it is an accurate and reliable carbine. All I've done is to change the flip up rear sight for a fully adjustable LMT rear sight.
Don't worry about the 10 round mags, concentrate on accuracy. Personally, when I shoot a rifle or carbine (or my handguns) I focus on accuracy, not just launching lead.

Congratulations on a great choice, you will not be sorry. As for me I have one but the only thing left that is a Sport is the barrel, lower and buffer tube. I got carried away just a little. It's only money, LOL.

Congrats on an excellent rifle! The sport is a fantastic weapon out of the box. Sorry your state is run by liberal socialists.

And you will have pics... Once I take possession. We have a ten day wait in Kalifornia for handguns and long guns.

Go to PSA site while you are enduring the dumb wait period and buy lots of ammo...it is reasonably priced and finally is plentiful. Then buy more ammo ......and then more ammo ! I experienced my first "bullet button" yesterday....what a goofy answer to a non existent problem.

What? No cell phone pictures?
And, we may have the wait for now, but in 173 days we won't.

Congratulations on your Sport purchase. Too bad about those worthless restrictions, but at least you have one.
Bought my Sport 8 months ago and was very impressed with the quality & accuracy of the little rifle. It's a great value, but did prompt me to get another AR last week, a Colt LE6920 MP-B. Besides the few obvious feature differences & price, the fit & finish between the two is pretty much the same IMO.
Am not going to modify either gun, except to get an insulated handguard for the Sport and a red dot to switch between the two.
I did read that a court out there in California just ruled that your 10 day waiting period is unconstitutional. Hope that holds up with the higher courts.

It doesn't look like the state is going to contest the ruling. Therefore, no need to worry about "higher" courts.

You did good getting the sport. Today I've run the 480th round through mine and it hasn't had a single hiccup. All I added was a Colt carry handle and have been just shooting it. I did acquire a couple of 30 round Magpul mags but I'm really reluctant to use them here in CommieFornia so they sit in the locker. I also got a magnetic "bullet button" mag release and love it.
Just shoot it, and shoot it, and shoot it. My problem is that my son and my wife love shooting it, too. I just gotta buy a 1,000 round bulk lot of .223 real soon.
Congratulations on your new rifle. I think for the price you cant possibly go wrong.

Thanks! I actually ordered some Magpul magazines myself, but I ordered the 10/20 versions, twenty-round magazine bodies permanently modified to only hold ten rounds. It's just not worth the felony charge to me to mess with standard cap magazines.
I've seen that magnetic bullet button you mentioned. I was going to get one but I was worried that I would forget to remove it, and then that'd be another felony. So I just got a bullet button ring.
Have you seen the Ultimate Bullet Button Tool? You just attach the nibs to the bottom front of your magazines. So when you are ready to change mags. You just use the tool on the end of the magazine to depress the bullet button. It's the fastest and easiest solution I have seen that won't land you with a felony.
It is really sad to have to fear all these felonies for things that are perfectly legal in Free America. It's particularly aggravating to me, as a non-Californian who came from a Free State. I'm just biding my time now, my wife and I are moving back to our home state in 2-3 years. Until then, I am going to play ball with this blatantly unconstitutional citizen harassment.
And if you think about it, owning a rifle is a piece of cake compared to a handgun in this state.

PSA( palmetto state armory for those who didn't know) is a waste of time for buying ammo, unless you wanna buy it 20 at a time. Everything on the site is not in stock.
