Default M&P tactical rifle case

What should I look for in a rifle case for my M&P 15? I only have one rifle now, but I see soft cases that hold two or three.

Opinions? Suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Two-rifle bags are handy, but get very heavy if you load them up with loaded mags and typical range gear. I tried a few different setups and have decided for me single bags for ind. rifles, and a separate range bag for ammo, tools, extra gear, etc. works best. I have a two-rifle bag also that I use occasionally, but mostly just use single bags.

They sell a soft single rifle case with M&P logo embroidered on it for $40. Use it to transport my M&P Sport. Amazing case for $40. Just thought I would mention that.

I use a Nike baseball bag. Blue/gray w/ sporty stripes, etc. Two padded compartments. Adjustable sling. Interrior net pouches that hold 4 pmags, cleaning kit, etc. Not really that heavy. Very low-key non threatening. Got it at Goodwill for $5.00. Think outside the box.

I had one of those, although it was the double, not the single model. I returned it because it seemed cheaply buildt compared to other similar bags (Condor, Voodoo, etc) and it stunk so bad - you know that "odor" that some nylon products have from processing. I'm pretty sure the odor would go away if you left it outside for a couple days, though. I just decided to go with another brand (The S&W bags are made by Allen).

EDiT - here's a mini review thread I wrote a while back if it helps... S&W Tactical 2 Rifle Case? (made by Allen)

When I got my first AR (a M&P 15-22) I looked at soft cases. My daughter has a hard case for her AR and it is ridiculously large. The soft cases at the gun store were the same price whether they were for a single rifle or double. I knew what I wanted. I wanted a padded case with lots of pockets to hold mags. etc. I ended up getting the double soft rifle case which is good because the black rifle disease got me and I now own the 15-22 and the M&P VTAC II AR's. Having both rifles in the case does make it heavy. But not as heavy as my daughter's hard case. Plus with the pockets, I keep the AR mags in the AR case. I should add that my soft case does not have any "badging" on it. I of the belief that you don't advertise what you have.

That's how I see it as well. Unless you go with a hard case.

Soft case wise there's nothing wrong with an Allen/M&P case. They offer 38" and 42" in size (single rifle).

Another idea would be the Barrett case. More expensive but very nice and sturdy.

If you want to invest in a hard case, Pelican, Storm and SKB come to mind.

EDIT:

If you want something different check this out

A double rifle case makes things easier if you are taking more than one rifle to the range. I take my Sport, and one of my .22lr with me when I go to the range. With two rifles in one case, it is one less bag to carry.

Ya know what is nice, is carrying the rifle broken down in a discreet bag like a tennis bag or a case made for discreet carry. That's just me, but people in general freak a little when they think you are transporting firearms.

I've seen that one as well and really like how its got the M&P logo on there. If anyone has the soft case how does that perform as far as the padding goes? I just got my sport and the flimsy cardboard box it came in will not last to long LOL but of course want to keep it as safe as I can. Planned on a case for her and saw an M&P kinda 'bail out bag' for all my gear and such so theres not too much weight in the rifle case.

Midway branded bags are low priced, good quality, and serve the purpose.

I used to have a couple of two gun cases and stopped using them except for travel because they are too heavy for me anymore. I like the idea of having a set of mags for the correct caliber along with a sling some of the other usual accessories in the pockets on the bag.

It so happens that I bought a case at Academy today. I was looking at ammo (and bought some Monarch 223) when I saw this case browsing around. I took it to the counter and asked if I can borrow one of their AR15 with a 16" barrel for a fit. It was perfect (when collapsed). It was an Academy brand and for $40.

I just picked up a "Lodge Outfitters" double rifle soft case for $80. It has a pad separating each weapon which are secured with three straps each. The thing I like best, the straps can be moved to suite the weapon you are putting in the case. It seems to work very well for my M&P-15 and 10/22

I'm of the one rifle, one soft case mindset. You wont run the risk of your guns crashing into each other with that strategy. I have one plastic (Doskin?) case that I actually bought for one of my Beeman "adult airguns" and I use it for my M&P Sport AR. I like the single gun soft cases best.
