OS-Wiz,
Very nice shooting! Is the 62gr load you were using the XM855? If so that's more impressive. I'll be very happy if I get similar results when I try my Aimpoint Pro. I've always been a fan of iron sights until I needed bifocals.

XM855LC1 rounds. Came in an ammo can, 420 rounds in 10 round stripper clips. Ironic that you mention bifocals as I have tri-focals I have my optometrist set my tri-focal to focus at the front site of my S&W M&P Shield and the bi-focal to focus at computer key board while seated. The top lenses have no correction. Initially I didn't like the EXPS2 then realized I wasn't looking thru the tri-focal. So, rifle or pistol, I probably look a little weird when shooting with my head tilted back a little to sight thru the tri-focal, but I'd rather look a little funny and hit the target!

I should have mentioned that, 35 years ago, my U.S. Marine brother-in-law ripped my rifle out of my hands the first time he watched me shoot Needless to say, he drilled me on how to shoot a rifle the Marine way until HE was satisfied

I use the same one the Aimpoint H1 and I set it to its lowest setting and it's very accurate. I use it on my Ruger SR 556 and I love it

I tried running red dot sights, but my aging eyes needed the magnification. I have been happy with the Burris MTAC 1-4 scope. Good eye relief, large field of view, easy brightness adjustment, and lighter than other comparable 30mm scopes.

Once sighted, the AR and EOTech managed to cut out about a 3/4" circle in the X ring from a rest (which is great for a 67 year old fart like me). Later went out to 100 and 200 yards rested and found the sight did just fine. 2" groups at 100, 4" at 200 rested. The EXPS2-0 is all those who recommended it you said it would be -- VERY happy with it. Again, thanks for the advice, patience, and recommendations.

I got to shoot my Sport at 50 & 100 yards today with my new Aimpoint Pro. I was happy as I had similar results to yours. Best group was 5 rounds in 3/4" at 50yds with XM-193. I had a couple of good 3 round groups with Hornady 5.56mm 55gr GMX that each measured 1 1/16". Those were my last two groups at 100 yards. I was either lucky or getting dialed in better with a consistent sight picture & trigger control. But most were around 1 3/4" with either GMX or XM-193 & some groups were a mediocre 2 3/4 to 3". That wasn't due to the ammo or rifle, that was my poor shooting. I haven't done anything off a bench in years, and very little with rifles. Most of my experience off a bench was with a revolver 35 years ago.
Overall, I really like this Aimpoint Pro. It suits my needs perfectly. And, I was happy with the GMX. As far as I could tell it has the same point of impact as the XM-193.

Thanks for checking back in with your initial results. Sounds like the Aimpoint suits your needs well. "And, I was happy with the GMX. As far as I could tell it has the same point of impact as the XM-193." Good to know, thanks.

Yipee!
Dropped in a Rock River National Match 2 stage trigger and hammer in my M&P15T. Wow, what a difference from stock. Helped me tighten up my groups too. Stringing touching shots at 50 yards, 3 inch group at 100 yards. M855 ammo. Caught it on sale for $108.

My optic budget is $200. Is this Vortex Sparc red dot a decent buy for 4160?
I've got weak eyes (almost 70), a weak wallet, and just plan to punch paper out to 100-150 yards:

The Sparc is not magnified, shooting out to 150 yards I would go with a low powered scope. If your eyesight is not as good as it used to be I would try looking through a red dot before buying one, if you have any sort of astigmatism the dot will look disfigured i.e. not round, another reason to go with some sort of scope.

I am a very firm believer that as far as optics go,
you get what you pay for. Take it for what its worth.

the so called (experts) don't know there axx.
I have had the 1000 dollar scopes and the 150 dollar
UTG Acrushot 36 color mil-dot by leapers ,to me the UTG is by far the best scope I have ever owned. The (experts) are either getting akickback from the major manufactures or there like most Liberals and are only one sided to the facts and truth.open your eyes these are the same guys that tell us that ther Glocks,HK,and Sig's are far superior
UTG scope ,you wont be disappointed , only these (experts) will.

I could post on here a million times and you would think I'm an expert about something, well to me that's **** I'm stating the facts as I know them to be .I'm near 60 years old and have learned the hard way you don't always want to listen to the wise guy ,take a chance and save some bucks, you might be surprised ,all those extended warrantys and hig dollar name brands didn't get me anywhere in life other then a few less dollars.
I'm not saying to but the cheap **** because its cheap ,I look for price vs quality vs my use vs piece of mind.
I don't buy something because I want to sell it later on for some profit.
so to keep the song and dance going about a specific name brand.

If a shooter is going to use their scope only at a range, twice a year and only at one distance, then the cheap scope will be fine. However, if you want to use it in varying conditions, distances and a lot, don't buy cheap optics.
There are several aspects that separate low dollar scopes from good ones. The repeatability of the adjustments, the clarity (distortion free), light transmission, parallax and durability are all things that can't be gathered by looking through an optic at the store; it must be experienced. Generally, an optic that has to have "gadgets" to sell it, is not worth even the low price it's being sold for.
Consider this, why does a Zeiss scope cost 4-10x more than a UTG, but has only half the features? The answer lies in the quality of the glass which should be the most important aspect of buying any scope. The cheap scope tries to wow you with fluff because they can add that stuff for little money and not put the effort into the glass that other, more expensive, scopes do.
I'm not going to try to talk anyone out of buying whatever scope they want. If being able to color your reticle in 36 shades is what's important to you, by all means get that one. However, if you want to shoot McMillan sized groups, you'll have to spend more than a little money. If you don't know what I mean by that, then the $150 scope will serve you well.

You only got one color and no magnification... you definitely got ripped off!
I have not seen the 36 color UTG scope, but I agree with Rastoff, having seen the difference in scopes with my own eyes. Inexpensive scopes work fine at the range, in good lighting... however by stepping up from a Simmons scope that came on a rifle I purchased to a Nikon Monarch, I gained about 10 minutes of hunting time at dawn and dusk. The cheap scope didn't pass enough light through it to see the target. The Nikon isn't what many would consider a high dollar scope either.

Bought a G33 a couple of months ago to go with my XPS3. Works great. A little on the expensive side but worth it for 100-200yds with my eyes...

The OmegaMfg Premium 3x Magnifier & 90 Degree Flip to Side Mount. For $90 the scope is OK. However, the mount does not place the scope up high enough on the rail to co-witness perfectly with my EOTech EXPS2-0 on my M&P15T. It sits a tad low. Working with seller to see if they can send me a mount that co-witnesses better. Will let you know how it works out.

As for me I have a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 1.5-4 and a VX-R Patrol 1.25-4. I like the VX-R better. These scopes work well out to 200 yards. I also have a couple of EOtechs on the shelf. I have a Bushnell red dot on a M&P15-22. That is a good combination for rimfire plinking. I also have a Colt M4 with a Leupold Prismatic scope. The Prismatic eats batteries. The reticle in the Prismatic works real well on black. The Leupolds are all illuminated, but the reticles are black when not lit up. I am a Leupold fanboy, does it show?

Update: well, had the OmegaMfg Premium 3x Magnifier & 90 Degree Flip to Side Mount out for a ride yesterday, about 80 rounds down range. Not impressed with the glass nor the flip mount. Hey, it was a $90 experiment that didn't work out.

Primary Arms quite often gives away their branded magnifier and flip mount for free with the purchase of an EOTech. My guess is that there are tons of those things tossed in AR parts boxes after a trip to the range.

The SightMark MSpec that I have seen requires no riser. Designed to co-witness on an AR platform as it is.
If you haven't clicked the buy button you might consider Primary Arms or a Bushnell TRS25. Lots of folks have them and they get good reviews here.
Palmetto has the Bushnell on sale with AR riser for $70. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...-ar731306.html

I recently ordered a Vortex VMX3T magnifier for my PRO along with the LaRue mounts for both. I'll post a review of the whole setup when it all comes in and I get a chance to play with them a bit.
