Default M&P15 60-day-500 round milestone

Hey !!!

My first AR. I bought this rifle about 2 months ago and only changed a few things on it at first simply for comfort.

I added a SPARC-II red dot and an H buffer and have held steady now for about 4 weeks.

I have cycled some 500 dirty and clean ammo through it without a hiccup.

At first I sighted this in at 50 yrds then i was off at 100yrds. I then just adjusted/zeroed the rifle at 100yrds and have not looked back.

I can hit steel at 100 yards and pick a quadrant on the target.

So, I haven't done too much at 200yrs, but when I did, I hit center mass. BLAH-BLAH-Blah..

So here I am.....the SPARC-II red is a precision sighting instrument. If someone can justify the price of an EOTECH or the other biggy red dot please come forward. For me, right now, I can hit an 8-10" steel target at 100yrds- this is too much fun.

So....why am I writing this? every few days-weeks I'll see a post: should I buy an M&P15? blah-blah-blah.

There should be sticky that simply says: BUY THE M&P15.

The only thing I have seen is some wear on the bottom of the BCG. I will have to photograph this and share it but I imagine it is normal....

==================

I bought the CAT-4M and the TALON cleaning tools and been trying to crud up the rifle so I can clean it....with my new justified purchases.

==================

what did I change? I replaced the handguard with a MAGPUL carbine length handguard-nice; MAGPUL VG I thought to be more versatile than the AVG2; MAGPUL MOE grip; H-buffer; MAGPUL MS3 sling and a non-asap mount;lastly-I needed a good cheek weld so I got the MAGPUL STR although the CTR would have been good too; I bought 2-30rnd mags and the coupler thingy for $20 at DSG.

++++++++++++++++

I had to keep myself from going crazy buying all kinds of **** for the rifle...quad-rails, weapon light, bipod, raptor charging handle, BCR, secret decoder ring and beanie cap and so on...geez....and I kept everything in black and not all that zanny FDE or dessert paisley and so forth....you can really waste a lot of money on accessories only to show up at a shooting range and look like Barney Rubble in a Hawaaian shirt with dicked out AR...ridiculous for me....As you all know, it comes NIB at 6.5 lbs. and I have held steady at 7.40lbs..

=================

but with all that non-sense being said...1-4x24 scope was really hard to resist...but I held fast...and could still buy it....

++++++++++++++++

Bottom line....M&P15 very nice rifle if I didn't know any better!!!!!

Yes, if you sight in at 50 yards, it will hit about 1" high at 100 yards. Then it will be right on at 225 yards.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

OK, I'll step up. I had the SPARC, predecessor to the SPARC-II. It had tremendous parallax issues. If you don't know what that is, or how to check for it, I'll post that later.

Both the EOTech HWS and Aimpoint red dot optics are completely parallax free. The Aimpoint has better clarity and control of the dot. It also has tremendously longer battery life. The reticle of the EOTech allows faster target acquisition and more precise aiming. The window gives a much greater field of view.

None of that is intended to change your mind. The SPARC-II is an OK optic for the price point. If you're hitting your intended targets with it, why would you change? I certainly wouldn't ask you to if you're happy with hit. You asked why the others are better and I gave the reasoning, that's all.

Yep, it's a great little gun.

During the great panic I bought a real, genuine Colt M-4 Carbine. All the folks at the local gun store kept saying the Colt is top of the line, it's "Mil Spec", "Mil Spec", "Mil Spec", and of course you had to have it because it is ........you guessed "Mil Spec". I discovered that it had the most God Awful trigger with the worse creep than a $24.00 Walmart pellet gun. Having some experience in shooting CMP matches, and other shooting events with the Arkansas State Rifle Team, I was appalled by the horrible 8 pound creep monstrosity that Colt supplied on this "Mil Spec" carbine. I know they can do better because the Colt Match Target were supplied with a beautiful two stage trigger. Now on top of the trigger, that Mil Spec M-4 comes with a 1-7 twist which is only there to shoot tracer ammo, but is not as accurate as a 1-8 or 1-9 barrel. What a poor buy for $1200!

It was then that I really appreciated my wonderful little M&P 15, with a good little trigger and highly accurate barrel. No wonder that it is a favorite at the Gunsite Ranch, which is a hell of an endorsement. This gun is a sleeper and a tremendous value. I will dump my Colt M-4 during the next great panic, or maybe before.

There's a couple of other websites where you could probably sell your genuwhine Colt (all kneel) for close to/at what you paid for it. Yeah, they'll snicker at you afterward, but so what.
