A week and a half and I buy my first M&P 15. Still after 2 months of debating I still don't know if it is going to be the Mid MOE for $775 or the OR for $620. I will be doing mostly bench rest out to 200yds, the end of out range, and think the MOE has a better barrel. If I do get the OR I will probably be putting a match grade barrel on it. Looking at the one from Wilson Combat. Either rifle will need a new trigger, My thinking is the MOE will do for now with the better barrel and I just change the trigger out. Both need a free floating hand guard.

The other option is get the MOE, change the trigger, and build a bench rest upper in a different caliber. Only a week and a half I got to decide. Don BTW please don't be giving my other models to buy as I can only get these from Quantico Tactical.

I would personally go with the MOE, especially at that price and drop in a trigger. This way you have your better barrel factory installed and can get to the shooting you want to do right away.

Thanks I think that is what I am going to do then later OI can build a upper for bench rest. I am having a hard time waiting to order it. My last full house payment goes ion next week then just a small payoff payment so this is a present to me from me. Now on the house payment can buy gun parts. Don

I doubt you will see much difference in accuracy between the two.

I am talking bench rest here for the smallest groups possible. If one shoots 1.25 MOA and the other shoots 1 MOA I want it. The fact is it really don't matter like you say as I will be replacing the Barrel and trigger before the end of the year. If I go with the Mid MOE now I think I will have a better all around gun and just build a upper for bench rest shooting. Thanks for your input. Don

WhY not just build you own AR?

By the time you spend $300 on WC barrel and $300 on a trigger and whatever FF handguard you want... then add in the price of the rifle... You'll be getting close to the price of a complete WC rifle.

Buying a rifle just to replace half the parts is an expensive way to get the AR you really want.

I'm sure someone will chime in if I'm wrong but doesn't the mid length MOE have about 2" longer sight radius which may not make a difference for you, then the carbine as you didn't say whether you would use iron sights or optics. And the mid will have a slightly less recoil which you probably won't notice. If your gonna change either barrel it really doesn't matter get the cheapest you can find. Like AR-Getsome said if your changing parts why don't you build your own and get what you want, after changing a lot of parts you don't have a warrantee anyhow. And for accuracy I would prefer a bolt gun.

I have a older carbine length MOE before the mid and like the MOE equipment.

That is true but I have run the numbers and even with it being close I don't want to pay big bucks all at once. WC Super Sniper $2225 base price. Mid MOE $775 trigger $235, hang guard $130, Match grade sniper barrel $325. = $1465 leaving me $760 for scope and bipod and a few other things. I can start shooting it as soon as I spend the $775. If I build another upper it will cost more but will have two different type guns to use. Don

You definitely don't throw all that money at a 200 yard bench rifle to shoot with irons.
But you are right, why you would want a semi for range bench shooting when around the $500 mark you already have options like the Mossberg MVP heavy barrel and even a decked out Rem 700 is going to be cheaper.

Did it. Paid the last payment on the house yesterday and ordered the Mid length MOE this morning. Going to build a upper for a match grade barrel, but a trigger comes first. Don

I know a guy who has about mortgaged his home trying to get his AR to shoot as well as my out of the box Rem 700 SPS. He's getting close...

But what the heck... for most of us it's a hobby. And hobbies don't necessarily fall under the category of prudent, thrifty or logical.

My next bucket gun will be a bolt action target gun just haven't decided on make and caliber yet. It was a lot more fun when I lived in Iowa and could varmint hunt. On my very short list and many others, for bench rest shooting I am drooling for the Ruger Precision Rifle in .308. Mag feed bolt gun that accepts AR furniture. I need a towel.

That is one sweet rifle and the price tag isn't to bad either. I would like mine in 243 Win. I used to varmint hunt with a Sako Forester in that caliber and also have harvested several deer with it. Don
