Default UTG 3-9 Bugbuster clearing mbus rear sight?

I looking get an UTG 3-9x32 Bugbuster Scope for my M&P 15 sport & in the pictures online the scope looks pretty tight to the rail. Reviews I've read, many mention risers. I'm not looking to co-witness. But, I need to clear the mbus rear sight. Are the 0,5 inch risers enough to clear the mbus or should I go with the 0.83 risers? I do not want to raise the scope to high & then need to add a cheek riser. Thanks, DK

You don't co-witness irons with a magnified optic like a scope. I recommend that you get a mount like the Nikon M223 or Burris PEPR. This will put the scope at the proper height. Unless you are going to use a quick disconnect type of scope mount, I wouldn't concern myself about the MBUS... since you can't use them with the scope mounted anyway.

Scopes don't run out of batteries. Nix the BUIS.
If you seriously shoot in situations where your scope might get cracked, where you would yank off the scope and then use your BUIS, you wouldn't have the scope on there in the first place.

That being said, you still need a riser. Not to clear anything (although you DO want to clear the front sight gas block unless you chopped that off since you don't seem at all concerned about that), but to get a usable cheek weld/sight picture. Your scope center should be just about 1.4" above the rail, +/- whatever suits you.

hard to say, most times you have to purchase and try to see if it's going to clear, unless you can verify with the tech measurements provided on UTG's website. I have the Nikon P223 3x small scope and have it on a UTG QD mount sitting on top of a 1/2" riser so it will clear the rear MBUS. The mount I have is a one piece off-set so that I can get proper eye relief for the scope. The cheek rise is still good and feels normal to me.

It depends on the scope mount. The inly way to know for sure is to try it. If it doesn't then you will need a riser or a taller mount.

The other way to go would be to get 45 degree offset mounts for the BUS. That way, if something happens to the scope or your target is too close to use the scope, you just rotate the rifle 45 degrees and keep shooting. Much quicker than QDs to remove the scope. Just make sure the BUS are still sighted in. The mounts are supposed to not change the plane they were originally sighted to but... Better to be safe than sorry.

You are going to want something like the Nikon P-22 mount or the Burris PERP. At 3X magnification you are going to see your frt sight, it'll be blurred, but you'll notice it, higher magnification, not so much. I'd just remove the rear sight if that doesn't give you enough clearance.

BTW, I have that Bug Buster on my son's Bushmaster, Excellent scope for the money. Holds zero and was easy to get on target. Have two or three other rifles with various UTG scopes on them and they are all spot on. I don't even install the batteries for the backlit reticle, in my experience, most of them flicker as some point or another. I just prefer the black reticle as it is.

Thanks Stimpy!
Can someone give me the parts numbers, link, price, etc. for the above?
Any advice for duplicating this set up?

I just bought a Sport2 5.56 and want to mount my UTG BugBuster like you.
Thanks in advance.

Update:

Is the below exactly what is recommended from everyone?????

Risers are just one more thing to vibrate loose with use. Get a good scope mount like cyphertext suggests

Dump the BUIS if you plan on using a scope. They are just one more thing to get in the way when attempting to manipulate the rifle and scope.

Simple is better.

+1 for the Nikon M233 and Burris PEPR, both great mounts for the price, the Burris is also available in QD.

Purchasing individual risers to accommodate rings that are too short is one way to do it... yet another way is to purchase the correct height rings or one piece scope mount. One inch tall rings or a Burris PEPR will work.

The eye bell on my Bushnell 1-4x scope is shown to be 40.6mm. Buggy scope shows 39.8mm. So the Buggy is actually a tad smaller according to Midway. Here is mine with a PEPR (equivalent to one inch tall rings) and MBUS Gen1 (Gen2 are lower profile). Plenty of clearance including lens caps. I believe this is a better solution than playing with something akin to LEGO construction of individual risers and rings.

What's everyone's opinion of the UTG 3-9x32 Bugbuster Scope ???

I'm being advised to return my new BugBuster for something else.
Thank you.

You've got a post about buying a 1x red dot, then a fixed 3x, and now a 3-9x.

Perhaps it would be best to first narrow the type of optic that best suites the shooting you do before talking about brand/quality.

I'm 100% new to guns and shooting, so please forgive my cluelessness.
Home defense and inside range are my initial plans.
So, I bought a Glock 19 and a Sport2 5.56.

I initially bought this UTG 3-9x32 Bugbuster Scope for my Sport2.

But, as of now, and based on research I've done (including this forum),
I'm planning on returning the Bugbuster today and buying the Vortex Sparc AR.

But, I'm asking for, and would greatly appreciate, any opinions and advice that can be offered.
Thanks again.

0.83" UTG risers are a good choice for your Bug Buster. It puts the scope at just the right height for me. For range use the Bug Buster is a great magnified scope for the money. Mine has held zero just fine and the mounts stay tight.

Best advice... forget about optics for the time being. Learn how to operate the rifle, learn to shoot with the sights. Your money best spent right now would be ammo, magazines, and instruction.

For home defense and indoor range I wouldn't think you need a scope...
A red dot would be more useful at both places unless your defending a space bigger than say 50 yards. And most indoor ranges are maybe 30 yards at most. with a red dot you can get on target a lot faster than a scope like you have mentioned.
