M&P Sport?
Picking used one tomorrow that's had about 500 rounds thru it. Anything to look for? Anyone know when S&W switched from 1/8 to 1/9 twist. Not sure if owner properly broke in barrel. Claims he bought new two years ago.
Any opinions and advice is appreciated.

Look for a really low price since a new one can be had for less than $600...
The barrel change happened back in Dec. 2012. No real barrel break in either way, with either chrome lined or melonite.

As long as you are happy with the price you're good. As mentioned, there isn't any barrel break in, no matter which barrel it has. Shoot it and enjoy it.

A new one is $540 and you get a "$99 value" mag charger.
I'd say for a 2 year old rifle with 1000 rounds through it (always double what people claim they've shot through a gun lol) the price is a tad high.
People give away carry handles. I wonder if that means you're not getting a standalone rear sight ($30-40 value lost there)
Mags are trivial, they're $10-15 ea.

Yep... The Sport never came with a carry handle, so that is an add on, and if it is a cheap Chinese one, it is garbage anyway. I don't think going with the used gun is worth the savings on this deal.

I think your wrong on carry handles. Quantico Tactical carries them on LE program pricing and they have carry handles.

In my opinion it's not worth the tiny savings to lose the S&W lifetime warranty. The add-ons really have little value. A new rifle comes with one mag.

Not a M&P 15 Sport, they didn't. The Sport has not come from the factory with a carry handle.
They are $540 on their website (Quantico Tactical) right now.

Yes I see that, when I went and looked at them the others month they were $599 with carry handle. I looked at it personally. I asked employee about it and they checked with stock they had in back they had carry handles as well.

Then Quantico Tactical is putting them on there... they do not, and have not come from the factory with a carry handle. The first generation had a fixed sight adjustable for windage and elevation (think carry handle sight but the handle part was chopped), and then they came with Magpul folding rear sights. I would not pay extra for one. I would actually feel cheated that they took the folding rear sight off... and I do not like Magpul sights.

On this used model you are looking at, just look at the barrel to identify if it's the 1:8 melonite, or 1:9 current barrel. All these guys down grading the price of the used Sport must not think much of theirs, I'd bet they wouldn't sell theirs for much less than that.
Don't forget if you buy a new one online, you are going to be paying a transfer fee to whatever FFL you have it shipped to. The guy that posted the link to GrabaGun, that is a great place to buy from, I've bought a half dozen guns from them, always fast shipping.

Notice, none of us are trying to sell ours, so we probably like them quite a bit, but emotion and what something is truly worth are two different things. Just because I would not be willing to sell mine for that price doesn't mean that I would buy a used one at new pricing. I'll let the guy trying to sell a used one at new pricing keep on looking for his sucker.

No deal. After reading these posts, I asked the guy if the carry handle was factory and if he had Magpul rear site. He got snippy and said he was giving me an AR for $500 and what more do I want from him. And that if I wanted a $1000 rifle he could add more stuff. I told him to go take a hike!

For $500.00 and it being 2 yrs old. I would just buy a new one, there are several places out there that have new Sports for $550.00-$600.00 now days. I know Buds has them for like $609.00. Then with a new one you can dress it up the way you want to.

Sounds like ya dodged a bullet. Makes me wonder what else he swapped out... like a cheaper BCG perhaps? Take that same money and go buy yourself a nice, shiny new one.
