Hickock 45 & The M&P 15-Sport
Thought you fellas would like this one.
This video almost makes me want to own one again. If I ever did, I wouldn't modify a single thing on it. I'd just top it off with a Primary Arms dot and call it done.

I just thought this was about time he did this review on this great little shooter. Even if I did have that key hole issue S&W took care of it and so far my Sport is running like a champ.

Did he paint or replace his front sight post?
Never occurred to me on how you're 'supposed' to use the front sight post. I've got mine set up to split the bull horizontally, but if you paint the front to make it look like a dot, are you changing to a cover-the-bull sight picture?

What made you decide to get rid of your AR 15 rifles? Just curious...

He painted it to make it easier to see... shouldn't change his sight picture at all. Not sure if he has it set for a 6 o'clock hold, or if it is set for POA=POI, but the paint shouldn't change that.

First and foremost, I took my firearms enthusiasm to a negative place. It became more about acquiring and owning than shooting. The thrill wasn't going to the range, it was what to buy next. I looked in the safe and saw firearms that I never shot often. I did a quick mental calculation and stunned myself. Second, my attitude on firearms shifted after I attained an IL CCL. My attitude shifted to practicality.
I evaluated what I had, culled out what I didn't truly enjoy to shoot, didn't get shot often, and didn't have a purpose. I'm down to four center fire handguns, two center fire long guns, and two rim-fires.

In a round about way, it played a part. The AR-15's direct gas impingement system poops where it eats. I tried every tool (see the cleaning thread stickey) and installed NiBx BCG's to mitigate the issue.
An 18" IWI Tavor replaced my AR-15's. It's my only 5.56 semi-auto modern sporting rifle. I interface with this rifle better than any AR-15. The long stroke gas piston system is fast and easy to clean and maintain.
I then followed up with a RWC import conversion Saiga 7.62 x 39 AK-M. I wanted an AK assembled (as much as 922r allows) at the IZSHMASH manufacturing plant in Russia. I ditched the horrid furniture installed for 922r compliance. Solid iron sights only rifle. Cleaning and maintenance is fast and easy.

I hear you on looking at the safe(s) and wondering what am I doing. As you put so well, this hobby can become more about what you own and want to buy next than what you shoot.

Keeping it simple
I am at my comfortable amount of firearms
I got my carry pistol/ Springfield XD 9 service model 4"
My rifles are the N-PAP AKM 47 Zastava M70
My M&P 15 Sport rifle
I just picked up my shotgun a Mossberg 500 SP
I also have the Tisas Zig M 80 series 1911 45 ACP
There is only 2 more firearms that I really want to own at that is a good 357 mag revolver and a good bolt action .308 rifle, I also want I one more AK and one more 45 ACP, then I would be complete. I collect to shot and I just want what's listed. I might even throw in another AR 15 but this one would be a BCM build, but that isn't important since the M&P 15 does me well.
I also have to work my butt off to get what I had and most of my firearms where purchased with saved birthday and Christmas money. I don't really have the cash like a lot of guys on these forums have and I know that a lot are just like me, paycheck to paycheck and saving funds to get that one nice firearm by working OT a lot.

My firearms collection has drastically shifted since I started 25 years ago. Now, with 2 exceptions, I own guns that are no longer made. I'm more into collecting than shooting, although I do still shoot as often as I can. Started reloading ammo to let me stock up and shoot for cheaper. Not to mention not being a slave to the next panic.
The AR's are gone now, replaced with an M1 Garand from the CMP. I just ordered another Garand from them. It's $100 more now than it was 18 months ago when I bought my last one, so they're also going up in value. I used to have dozens of AR mags, Molle gear. Red dot sights on them. I just don't have end of the world fantasies where I walk the landscape like its the Walking Dead. I don't envision any situation where 8 rounds from a semi auto .30-06 can't get the job done. I don't worry about "only 8 rounds" and slower reloads of an 8 round en bloc clip. And the clips never go bad, like AR magazine springs can. And they're dirt cheap, like a buck a piece. When I hold the Garand, I feel it's history. Not so with the AR.
When the next one arrives, I'll evaluate it and if I decide not to keep it, I'll sell it for a bit of a profit and maybe buy another AR. I still have some mags and ammo from my last one. Although I will not be buying a Sport. The Ruger AR556 has a forward assist and a bolt cover.
My home gun is a Ruger SR9, and my carry gun an LC9-S. I like the safety features and they share the same manual of arms.

I'm getting to the same situation John, but for different reasons. The chase had become the goal. Then two years ago I started upland hunting and trap shooting. i found l like the practical side of shooting more than the acquisition chase. I really wasn't collecting, just acquiring. Then, this spring my brother died unexpectedly and I inherited his firearms. He tended to like western guns and I'm not a big western gun fan. So, I'm in the assessment phase, but I will probably put my Sport on the block. It's a great gun, but I like my retro A1 better.

I agree with this concept of a comfortable number of firearms. Beware the man who has only A FEW guns, he probably knows how to use THEM.
Apologies to the originator of that statement, but it is hard to do with just ONE.

I can relate to what you're saying re: "the hunt". Do you reload? For me I've been satisfying my "hunt" reflex by scrounging range brass. When I go to the range I love to search through the brass buckets looking for stuff I can salvage. It gives new life to stuff that would be scrapped and keeps me from having to buy brass. It's a game.

I used to reload. I just don't have the uninterrupted time to devote 100% attention to the entire reloading process anymore. As every reloader knows, all it takes is one moment of inattention to cause a catastrophic failure. I sold my meager reloading kit and consumables.
Reloading is a skill set / knowledge base that every experienced firearms enthusiast should learn. Even if you'll never reload, it's good to know what it takes to produce good ammunition.
